It ensures that pupils never experience failure but provides stimulating/challenging activities that provide pupils with success, thus developing positive attitudes to reading. 5. How does the programme work? Reading is a two part process – it requires effortless decoding (building up of words) and comprehending ( understanding what has been read). Its basis lies with learning the 44 common sounds in the English language. (More sounds they know, the more texts they can read).
