2 Where are we at present? Pupils across school develop good reading skills….. achieve valuable independence in their reading in group sessions ….. Make improvement in year 3 and 4 with sound recognition and proceed to build on this in years 5 and 6. Girls exceeding LEA and national figures.

4 Where we want to go… Read, Write, Inc Why did we decide to invest in this? All pupils who require the programme able to access it on a daily basis. It ensures that pupils never experience failure but provides stimulating/challenging activities that provide pupils with success, thus developing positive attitudes to reading. Children are taught in groups of same ability and therefore programme can be delivered at pace therefore progress is much quicker. (Get them on and off programme.) 5 How does the programme work? Reading is a two part process – it requires effortless decoding (building up of words) and comprehending ( understanding what has been read). Its basis lies with learning the 44 common sounds in the English language. (More sounds they know, the more texts they can read). Requires pupils to work in partners, learn from each other. Statistics show we learn best through personal experience (85%) and teaching others (95%).
