The sun The sun is a star. It looks bigger because it’s much closer to the sun than the other stars. The sun is as big as more than a million earthsized planets. It is 150 000 000 kilometer away. Light and heath from the sun takes 8 minutes to reach the earth.

The earth Picture:: NASA The real name is Tellus. The earth has one moon. 70 % is covered with water. One day is 24 hours. The year is 365 days. The temperature is between -89 °C - 58 °C The moon is our closest neighbour. The moon circles around the earth. In 1969 the first humans landed on the moon (Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins).

Mercury 88 days and nights are one year on Mercury. During days it is 380 °C. During nights it is -170 °C. You will become sunburn if you land on Mercury. It’s the closest planet to the sun. The planet has lots of rocks, volcanoes and thunders. Picture: Nasa

Venus Venus have many white clouds. The clouds are full of poisoned gases. Venus is the second planet from the sun. The planet is named after the goddess of love, Venus. It’s called Morningstar in the morning and Eveningstar in the evening. It’s also called the white planet. The temperature on the planet is 480 degrees C. It’s the twin planet of earth and it’s about the same size. Pictures herehere

Mars Mars is the red planet. It never rains on Mars. During clear nights you can see Mars as a red shining plate on the sky. There are lots of volcanoes on the planet. It’s half as big as the earth. Picture: NASA

Ceres Ceres is a dwarf planet. The planet was discovered in 1801. Not called a planet until August 2006. Ceres lie between Mars and Jupiter. The diameter is about 800 km.

Jupiter Jupiter is a big planet. Jupiter have big clouds. The clouds are red, brown, yellow and green. The planet weigh is the same as 300 globes of earth. Jupiter have more than 63 moons. Click here to see a drawing of Jupiter and Saturn.Jupiter and Saturn. picture: Nasa

Saturn Saturn is a big planet. This is the second biggest planet. Saturn is the 7th planet from the Sun. This planet have 2 fine rings. The temperature is 190 degrees of frost. One year on the planet is as long as 30 earth years. See our drawing of Saturn. Pictures: Nasa

Neptun Neptune the 9th planet. Named after the sea god. Neptune was discovery in 1846. Neptune looks like Uranus. One year on Neptune is as long as 165 earth years. The temperature is 240 degrees of frost. Neptune is the 4th biggest planet. The planet has 8 moons. Click here to see pictureshere

Uranus Uranus is the 8th planet. Uranus got its name after the god of heaven, “Uranos”. The planet lies on its side. The moons and the rings rotate as a pariswheel. The planet have 13 rings. The rings are black. There are about 210 degrees of frost on the planet. picture: NASA More pictures

Pluto Pluto is the smallest and coldest planet. The planet was named after the god of death. During the day the temperature might be 200 degrees of frost. It is a dwarf planet. The planet is just a piece of rock with ice around. Read about Charon. Picture: NASA

Charon Charon is twice as big as Pluto. It used to be Pluto’s moon. It is a dwarf planet. Charon is made of ice and rock. Picture :NASA

Eris The planet used to be called Xena. The planet was named Eris December 13th 2006. Eris is a small planet. It is a dwarf planet. Eris is furthest away the sun. WE made these pictures
