1 Lesson From The Conversion of the Eunuch
Acts 8:26-39

2 Work of the Holy Spirit Many confused about H.S. Work in salvation.
Expect direct operation of H.S. on sinner. Some “better felt than told” experience. Sinner’s prayer is asking God for some confirmation of salvation from the Spirit. This confusion did not come from God (1 Cor. 14:33). Philip reached eunuch with guidance of H.S. (v. 29). Then, he “…began at the same Scripture…” (v. 35). Spirit works through the Word of God which He revealed to the apostles (Eph. 6:17). Not one conversion in book of Acts where Spirit worked directly on the sinner. The Word was taught in every example!

3 God  Spirit  Apostles 
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 16:7-8; Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment….I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth…

4 Work of the Holy Spirit in Conversion
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches… (1 Cor. 2:12-13). God Holy Spirit Apostles

5 God  Spirit  Apostles 
Gal. 1:11-12 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. Eph 3:3-5 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets.

6 Work of the Holy Spirit  Reveal Truth
Acts 2:4-37 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance…. Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Acts 4:4 However, many of those who heard the word believed… Acts 17:2-4 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.“ And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women… Acts 18:8 …And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.

7 Work of the Holy Spirit  Confirm Truth
Mark 16:17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. 19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.

8 Work of the Holy Spirit  Confirm Truth
Heb. 2:1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

9 Work of the Holy Spirit  Confirm Truth
Acts 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. 6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. 13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.

10 Work of Preachers Philip, the preacher, “… beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him” (v. 35). Work of preacher: “Preach the Word” (2 Tim. 4:2). Not political speech; Not entertaining speech THE WORD of GOD! This includes: Reproof, Rebuke, Exhortation, & Warning (2 Tim. 4:2-5) Persuading (2 Cor. 5:11; Acts 2:40) Comforting (1 Thess. 4:18) Preached to only one man. Started where the student was.

11 Preaching Jesus Includes Preaching About Baptism
Acts 8:35-36 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. Most leave out baptism. Peter’s sermon on Pentecost included baptism and the reason for it (Acts 2:38). Ananias told Saul why he needed to be baptized (Acts 22:16). Baptism is a part of God’s plan for saving lost souls.

12 The Necessity of Faith Philip’s answer to eunuch’s question:
Acts 8:37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” Faith is essential to being saved (Heb. 11:6; Jn. 8:24; Mk. 16:16). What does this say about infant baptism? Baby can’t confess faith. Baby can’t ask or answer question. Forced baptism is of no avail.

13 What One Confesses Some confess their sins.
Others give their testimony about what God has done for them. Eunuch confessed “…I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” (Acts 8:37). Rom. 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Matt. 10:32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. It is a public confession.

14 What Baptism Is Bible Baptism Involves:
Coming to the water (Acts 8:36) Going into the water (Acts 8:38) Coming up out of the water (Acts 8:39) Burial in water (Rom. 6:3-4) Understanding (Acts 8:30) Urgency (Acts 8:36-39; 16:33) This is the one baptism of Eph. 4:4. The baptism of the great commission (Mt. 28:19).

15 The Joy of Being A Christian
Acts 8:39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing. He had received the promise of the Lord--salvation (Mk. 16:16). His past sins were forgiven (Acts 2:38; Rom. 3:25). Matt. 5:12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven… Phil. 3:1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord…
