1 Acts Acts Chapter 1 Acts Acts

2 The Text Acts 2:38

3 Acts Acts 1:1...(a) “The former account I made”.
This is what the NKJV says. The KJV says: “The former treatise I made” It is the same idea anyway. The NASB says: “The former account I composed” The idea, of all of these Bible versions is that before Acts was written there was another one already in place. The Gospel of Luke? Some erroneously believe that the word FORMER (protos) is the first of more than two. a. Luke 1:1-3. 4. This is the order, and this is the one that Luke is referring to when he says in the former... There is no evidence or excuse to say that Luke is referring to any other book but the book of Luke. Acts

4 Acts Acts 1:1(b)... O Theophilus... Theophilus
A real person? Yes, A Christian or an unbeliever? Most likely a Christian! “most excellent” Acts Greek term for “most excellent” is (kratiste) this term was sometimes used as a title for someone of rank. It is a term Paul used in addressing: Felix... Acts 23:26; 24:3... Festus. Acts 26:25...

5 Acts 1:1(c)... of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
The whole point is about Jesus. MINISTRY. My brother there is no retirement from seeking to reach a world that is sunk so desperately in need. John 4:35.. John 9:4... 1 Corinthians 4:2... 1 Corinthians 6:20... 1 Peter 4:10... 2 Timothy 1:6... Ecclesiastes 9:10... Acts To do and teach

6 Acts Acts 1:2(a) ... Until the day in which He was taken up
Jesus worked until the last minute! Until the day, Acts 1:12... “Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. He was taken up! Acts John 3:13; John 6:41, 42; Jesus is Lord of lords

7 Acts 1:2...(b)... after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, Acts Christ worked and taught through the “Holy Spirit.” Christ gave and taught His commandments to those whom He had chosen, His apostles... Which ones, what commandments? Acts Acts 1:8; Romans 8:5; Romans 8:13 Ephesians 5:18; 1 John 2:27

8 Acts 1:2...(c)... “after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, Acts No other commandments has Jesus given but the ones He gave to His apostles. I do not see! When Luke is talking about apostles; we must understand that outside of these ones that Jesus chose, there are NO other apostles...The presumption of some to call themselves “apostles” is only that presumption! Jesus did not recognize: Joseph Smith... Mormons Charles Russell... Jehovah Witnesses. Mohammad...Muslims. Etc...These are “false Apostles” Acts

9 A thought for you and I... Acts 2 Timothy 2:2... Matthew 18:19, 20...
Every believer is a chosen servant of God to carry on His mission, every believer is to be proclaiming the glorious message of Hope to a world lost and doomed to death! 2 Timothy 2:2... Matthew 18:19, 20... John 20:21... Acts 1:8... Acts Northside this is your job!!!

10 The apostles! To whom, who are these? Acts
Acts 1:3...(a)... “to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs...” Acts To whom, who are these? The apostles! One of the requisites to being an apostle of Jesus was to be a witness of His baptism, and also of his resurrection...Peter says that this is the proof, for a real witness or apostle...Acts 1:21,22... Acts

11 Jesus shows his disciples many proofs that He was the same before and after His crucifixion and Luke says that He showed many infallible proofs! Which ones? Acts 10:40, 41 Infallible---From the Greek (tekmerion)...It doesn’t appear anywhere else but here and the idea is: convincing, decisively proof! Acts The word proofs---from the Greek (tekmeriois) means positive proof; infallible proof; convincing proof; sure signs and ways... There is no doubt that he came from death, He is alive!

12 Acts 1:3...(b)... “to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs...” Acts The KJV says “After his passion” The word “passion” (phatein) means “suffering; it refers to the suffering or death of Christ. His death and resurrection assured the salvation of man. By death He paid the penalty for man’s sin. Acts 1 Peter 2: Peter 3:18... Romans 6:4...1 Corinthians 15: Corinthians 5:17...Ephesians 1: Ephesians 2:4-10.

13 Jesus’ Resurrection Acts

16 Jesus Appearances... John 20:30, 31; 21:25 Let’s keep in mind that after Jesus’ ascension unto heaven, He had appeared at least two other times: Acts He appeared to Stephen at his death (Acts 7:55-56). He appeared to Paul on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3)

The nature of the Kingdom is spiritual... Luke 17:21... Jesus and the church... Ephesians 5: Acts Groom Bride Matthew 4:17... Matthew 16:18... Acts 1:3... Inseparable...

20 Why? Was the city important at all? Acts Zechariah 2:10... Acts 1:8...

21 Acts 1:4 (c)... And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; Acts The promise! Matthew 3: Acts 2:32... John 14: Luke 22:49... Acts 1: Isaiah 44:3.. Joel 2:28... Acts

22 Did Jesus say: wait or Pray?
Acts 1:4 (d)... And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; Did Jesus say: wait or Pray? Acts

23 Acts Isaiah 40:3 Matthew 3:1-3
Acts 1:5... (a) “for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. Acts What was the difference between the Baptism of John and the baptism of Jesus? Isaiah 40:3 Acts Matthew 3:1-3

24 Let’s make it straight this morning...
What was the difference? Everything start here. Acts 1:5... Jesus approved John’s Baptism Matthew 21:25 Mark says that John Baptism was FOR the remissions of sins Mark 1:5; Luke also says the same. Luke 3:3; Matthew 3:11. But then, Apollo's was wrong when he was teaching the baptism of John. Acts 19:25,26. Later the Ephesians need to be baptized again because they were baptized in the baptism of John. Acts 19:3-5. Why?

25 Jesus says: YOU. Who is Jesus talking to?
Acts 1:5... (b) “for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. Acts Jesus says: YOU. Who is Jesus talking to? Acts Did the Holy Spirit descend upon the 120 or only to the 12?

26 Sorry, but the promise was only made to the twelve!!
Luke 24:47, 48...“And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48“And you are witnesses of these things. Acts

27 Sorry, but the promise was only made to the twelve!!
Then Jesus said: Acts 1:8... “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts This is not WATER BAPTISM! It is a PROMISE!

28 Baptism... Is Luke using the same word for water baptism?
Baptism...from the Greek: "baptidzo" It is the exact same word, but they would not be immersed in water but in the HOLY SPIRIT! Acts Matthew 3:11

29 Acts 1:6...(a) “Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Acts Again these are the twelve! when they had come together This gathering is totally different from the one mentioned in verse 4... Acts Acts 1:4... “And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me”

30 Acts 1:6...(b) “Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Acts "restore" They are tired, they are confused and they don’t want ROME in their country anymore... Acts

31 The apostles’ question is not surprising
The apostles’ question is not surprising. They are confused, and they had been expecting Jesus to do something like this for them... Luke 19:11... 11Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately. Their hope was killed! Acts Luke 24:21... “21“But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened.

32 The reviling thing is this: The disciples were still thinking about earthly terms, about a Physical messiah! Acts The confusion was probably due to the promise that Jesus made unto them, that they would sit on 12 thrones to judge the tribes of Israel. Matthew 19: “27Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?” 28So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 30“But many who are first will be last, and the last first. Acts

33 Acts Saul --- Bronze... David --- Silver... Solomon --- Gold...
Jesus will NOT set up a KINGDOM in this world anymore, as the Premillenialists believe and teach! With this question, what the disciples were asking was: Position and influence Recognition and prestige. Authority and power Rule and reign Money and possessions The material and the Physical. Saul --- Bronze... David --- Silver... Solomon --- Gold... Psalm 89:35,36... Isaiah 11:10... Zachariah 8:3... Zachariah 9:9... Acts

34 One question please! Is Jesus saying: I DON’T KNOW?
Acts 1:7...(a) And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. Acts Who are THEM ? Jesus is talking to the twelve! Acts One question please! Is Jesus saying: I DON’T KNOW?

35 Acts 1:7...(b) And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. Acts It is not for you to know!!! If I don’t know something I would have said: It is not for US to know... Acts Jehovah's witnesses teach that in Acts 1:7 Jesus admits to being inferior to the Father...Inferior, because of the simple fact that He did not know how to answer this question...Do you agree?

36 It is not for you to know!!! Acts
Acts 1:7...(c) And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. Acts It is not for you to know!!! Believers are not to be focusing upon prophesy and the setting of dates. Believers are to be focusing upon witnessing, and upon sharing the glorious gospel of salvation with the world Acts Mark 13:32... “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

37 Acts 1:8...(a) “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts Jesus in this gathering continues addressing HIS disciples, He said: BUT YOU... It is the same idea. He is not talking to anyone else but the twelve! Acts

38 Acts 1:8...(b) “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts What is Power and what Kind of Power? Acts Dunamis: Power or might... They were to receive the might that the Holy Spirit Gives... In verse 7 “Exousia” is the word found for AUTHORITY.

39 Acts 1:8...(c) “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts The power will come with THE Holy Spirit! It was to be something SUPERNATURAL THAT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE! JOHN 16: Acts

40 Acts 1:8...(d) “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts Who is a witness? A bystander, eyewitness, observer, somebody who sees something, somebody who saw or heard something that happened and it gives evidence about it. Acts

41 Are Jehovah witnesses, Witnesses?
Acts 2:32. Acts 3:15. Acts 4:33 Acts 5:32 Acts 13:31 Can we use that name? NO! We never saw Jesus in the sense that these men have seen Him, we never touched Him, heard Him, in the physical way...We never eye witnessed anything that He did. Acts

42 Acts 1:8...(e) “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts

49 Why Samaria? They were enemies of the Samaritans, so why them?
Acts They were enemies of the Samaritans, so why them? John 4:9 9Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Luke 9:51-54. 14For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, Ephesians 2:14

Acts We Love and Respect Mary this is something the we must clarify… Mary was a true believer! Acts She was keeping many things about her son in her heart and here she proved to be a real believer.

Acts Psalm 69:25 Psalm 41:9

69 Something that I don’t see in the book of Psalm is the name:
Judas! Does it have to be Judas? Matthew 10:4 Matthew 26:14 John 12:4-7 Acts

70 Let me make some points about Judas as a treasurer!
Acts Unless a person is truly saved, sanctified, he is not acceptable to God It is not enough: To claim and profess God. To hold an official office in the church. To be the evangelist or leader. To be faithful church member. To associate with others. To be effective in the ministering. Acts

71 Acts 1:17...(a) “for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry.”
Judas was among the twelve! Don’t be deceived, people can be among us, but they don’t necessarily have to be a part of us... 1 John 2:19... “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. Acts

72 Acts 1:17...(b) “for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry.”
Judas also obtained part in the ministry, Peter said... But what Ministry? The ministry (Service) of the twelve! Acts Acts It was an Honor to be counted among the twelve, among Jesus’ followers. There were many who fulfilled the ministry better than Judas but the Honor was for him, and he missed it!!

73 Acts 1:18...(a) (Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. Acts Acts Did Judas buy the Field? That’s exactly what Peter says: Matthew 27:3,4... Matthew 27: Acts Acts The wages of iniquity... What was that?

74 Acts 1:18...(b) (Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. Acts Acts Matthew 27:5... “Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself. Acts Acts This is all that Mathew says, but Luke added more info when he mentioned that he even split opened in the middle and all his entrails gushed out...

75 Acts 1:19...(a) And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.) Acts Acts Everyone knew about Judas and also about his death... The field purchased with Judas’ money was called: Akel Dama. This is an Aramaic word and means. FIELD OF BLOOD. Acts Acts

76 Acts 1:20...(a) “For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it’; and, ‘Let another take his office. Acts Acts This is the way that we are all supposed to talk: IT IS WRITTEN. Peter is quoting the Bible, and this time he goes to the Book of Psalm to bring some application on Judas’ death... Acts Acts Psalm 69:25; Psalm 109:8

77 Acts 1:20...(b) “For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it’; and, ‘Let another take his office. Acts How did Peter know about all of this? How did he know that this prophecy could be applied to Judas? Acts Acts Luke 24:

78 Acts 1:21... (a) “Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Acts Acts Due to all of the evidences presented by the book of Psalms... Keep in mind that in the upper room there are 120 disciples and many women, but they selected men...Why is that? Why not Mary Magdalene, or Joanna, or Salome, or Martha? Acts Acts

79 Acts 1:21... (b) “Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Acts Acts anthropos Galatians 3:28... “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Not gune Acts Acts

80 Acts 1:22...(a) “beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.” Acts Acts The new apostle must: Have been with Jesus at all times, beginning in John’s baptism, until the days in the Olives or the ascension... His resurrection is also mentioned... Very fundamental for the one replacing Judas. These are doctrinal points that they must be familiar with... Acts Acts

81 Acts 1:22...(b) “beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.” Acts Acts But why John’s baptism?
