4. For this reason… Paul reveals that he is a prisoner for Jesus Christ, and that it was for the sake of the Gentiles (v1). –Would you be willing to go to prison for Jesus sake? –What about for the sake of others? –What persecution have you faced as a result of being a Christian?

5. Pauls purpose: –What was given: Gods gracious revelation of the mystery of Christ; this is that through the gospel, the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel of Gods promise of Christ Jesus (v6). –Who was it given to? Paul (v2) Holy apostles and prophets (v5) –How was it given and revealed? By the Spirit (v5) –Why was it given? So that it could be understood by the Ephesians (and us) (v4)

6. What is your view of God? Paul shows here –His high view of God: …God, who created all things (v9) …the Father…from whom his whole family…derives its name (v14) Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask…(v20) –His low view of himself: Although I am less than the least of all Gods people (v8) Do you have the same hierarchy? Do you think this is a healthy viewpoint?

Pauls Servanthood What did Paul become? –A servant (v7) How? –Through the working of Gods power (v7) Why? –To preach to the Gentiles (~us) (v8) What was Gods intention for this? –Gods manifold ( occurring in many different ways and places ) wisdom would be revealed to the rulers and authorities in heavenly realms by the church (v10) What has happened as a result? –We may approach God with freedom and confidence (v12) –We dont need to worry about circumstance (v13)

8. What did Paul pray about? That out of the riches of Christ, we would be strengthened (v16) –With power –Through His Spirit –In our inner being That Christ would dwell in our hearts (v17) –Through faith That we would have power (v18-19) –To grasp the scope of Gods love –To know this love –To be filled with the fullness of God

9. Do you have an active, passionate prayer life? Self Exam: –Do you regularly, at least daily, have a time of prayer? –Do you acknowledge who He is in prayer? (v14, v20) –Do you pray for others spiritual health? (v16,v17) –Do you believe He is able to answer? (v20)
