1. Datamax/MCL Off-Line License Activation Method

2. Purpose
The purpose of the off-line license activation process is to obtain an ACTIVATION KEY from the MCL License Server.
The phrase “off-line” simply means that the MCL product itself is not going to obtain the key automatically. The person performing this exercise will still obtain the key via an online internet connect – but he/she will follow the process manually.
This process requires access to the Internet via a supported web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.
We will use the DMXNet Manager product and the MCL License Server during this example, however, this process also applies to all of the other MCL software products.

3. The first time you start an MCL product after installation, you are prompted to activate the product. Select ACTIVATION, and then click NEXT.

4. Enter the License Number that has been provided to you via email.

5. After entering the license number in the space provided, click NEXT.

6. Review the license terms, indicate that you agree by clicking the box, and then click NEXT.

7. Enter the the information requested and then click NEXT

8. Carefully read the description of the two licensing methods, indicate which one you will be using, and then click NEXT.

9. Carefully read the description of the licensing method selected, and then click NEXT.

10. Select “OFF LINE”, and then click NEXT.

11. Review, and then click NEXT.

12. You are now prompted to enter the Activation Key
You are now prompted to enter the Activation Key. You will need to obtain this piece of information from the MCL License Server. Open your browser and go to
The Serial Number will be generated for you if you selected the ‘Software Serial Number Key’ method. Or, you will be prompted to enter the key number from the label on the parallel or USB hardware key (dongle) if you selected ‘Hardware Serial Number Key’.

Click the License Activation button.

14. Review, and then click NEXT.

15. Enter the License Number and the password from the email that you received. Then click NEXT.

16. Review the license terms, indicate that you agree by clicking the radio button, and then click NEXT.

17. Enter the the information requested and then click NEXT

18. Carefully read the description of the two licensing methods, indicate which one you will be using, and then click NEXT.

19. Enter the Serial Number from the product’s activation wizard into the MCL License Server’s prompt.

20. The MCL License Server then generates the Activation Key
The MCL License Server then generates the Activation Key. Enter the Activation Key from the MCL License Server’s screen into the product’s activation wizard prompt.

21. Review the completed information, click PRINT, and then click NEXT.

22. Backup the MCL.KEY file to a location of your choice, and then click NEXT.

23. Click FINISH.
