2 Patient unique ID A string of characters of fixed or variable length which is used to dereference an object within a system A set of characters permanently assigned to an individual for identification purposes and is truly unique [not shared with any other individual] MINISTRY OF MEDICAL SERVICES MINISTRY OF PUBLIC HEALTH & SANITATION

3 Why unique ID [1] One of the Health identifier standards To positively identify patients –Prevent mistakes e.g. Blood transfusion, surgeries, medical administration –Health insurance, billing, re-imbursement Facilitate data sharing –Within /across health facilities/providers –Names can be similar but not unique Ids MINISTRY OF MEDICAL SERVICES MINISTRY OF PUBLIC HEALTH & SANITATION
