3.  Pilot programme initiated in April 2009 with training commencing for HCS and HCSP in October 2009.  Two cohorts (2009 and 2010) of HCS and HCSP trainees spread across 16 laboratories in England and Wales  PTP is 2 year work based programme for 2009 and 2010 only (as pilot programme). Moving to the Future MSC has been approved by new ministers Mentioned in dispatches –We will increase the use of highly qualified clinical scientists in the NHS to free up doctors to focus on the work that only they can do, as part of the Modernising Scientific Careers programme. This programme will save the NHS in excess of £250 million per year.
