People not taking responsibility Not enough people doing service People not understanding their role Not enough handover/mentoring Newcomers not properly welcomed Few experienced members at groups Break downs in communication between Region/Area/Groups/Individuals Few crèche facilities Few social events Intimidating personalities Inappropriate behaviour in meetings Inappropriate outside meeting i.e. gossiping, clicks etc. Poor communication

6 Results Regional Questionnaire Most people don’t know how the Region serves the areas, or how we manage our money Would like to see: more protection from 13th steppers, inappropriate behaviour, more step meetings Who's missing from our meetings: old timers and young people, travellers, women with clean time, foreign nationals PR work: more advertising, more speaking engagements, information DVD H&I: For it to continue to grow – there are still many institutions without activity

7 Recommendations for EASC following Inventory  Proper election procedures  Make positions clear  Stager election schedules  Foster the concept of home groups  Develop a pool of mentors  Info package for new office holders  Encourage Gars to conduit info to best of ability  Encourage attendance at group conscience - preamble  More workshops on building stronger groups  Training days  Encourage people to read a guide to local services

10 Actions To carry out the wishes of the fellowship the Region will create: Regional Events Chair Regional Literature Chair Regional Parents and Carers Chair Activly promote and deliver service workshops Regional Service Conference

11 Following UK and Swedish Models, annual or bi annual Irish Regional Service Conference be held starting in 2010 A member be appointed to do a feasibility study and report to Region All guidelines regarding our current Regional Convention be instituted, i.e. Chair and treasurer be voted in by region, etc.

12 That the region actively promote the service workshops in all four areas, and train and mentor local members New WSO workshops led by Regional delegate and alternate A human resource pool be set up with those with experience in delivery, and willing to learn, workshop delivery The region liase with and inter link areas that deliver service workshops Workshop materials catalogued in conjunction with Regional Literature Chair and kept in office for future use

13 Regional Parents and Carers Chair Following regional guidelines for subcommittee Chair Has a vote at region One year term renewable for one year Creates a vice chair and an open subcommittee Objective: To liase with areas regarding the needs of those members with children in their care Referencing the UK model, actively promote child friendly meetings, crèche facilities, family events Ensure child health, welfare and safety guidelines be met at such events

14 Regional Events Chair Following regional guidelines for subcommittee Chair Has a vote at region One year term renewable for one year Creates a vice chair and an open subcommittee Objective: Liase with and create inter-area links regarding fellowship events Promote fellowship events Subcommittee designs, develops and delivers regional social events as per the wishes of the fellowship
