© 2006 Open Grid Forum 2 Creation process Astro-CG proposed at OGF35 in Delft http://www.ogf.org/gf/event_schedule/ind ex.php?id=2531http://www.ogf.org/gf/event_schedule/ind ex.php?id=2531 Four presentations shown Preliminary draft of the CG charter discussed Further iterations after OGF35 Charter submitted to GFSG in July 2012 and approved in August Final version of the charter available at http://www.ogf.org/OGF36/materials/253 4/Astro-CG-Charter-v3.0-approved.pdfhttp://www.ogf.org/OGF36/materials/253 4/Astro-CG-Charter-v3.0-approved.pdf

© 2006 Open Grid Forum Main Objective 19 Jun 2012 Aims at becoming the natural framework where entities dealing with e-Infrastructures of different nature and operating within the heterogeneous A&A community distributed worldwide can Meet and exchange experiences Share common issues Collaborate looking for possible common solutions Provide interoperability paths between different e- Infrastructures and the underlying technologies Definition of services and interfaces enabling the integration of e-Infrastructures and of their related resources used by astronomers for their scientific production

© 2006 Open Grid Forum e-Infrastructures of Reference 19 Jun 2012 IVOA IVOA operates the VObs, the main data e-Infrastructure of Reference for A&A Computing e-Infrastructures deployed all over the world Europe: EGI/NGIs US: XSEDE (the former TeraGrid) and OSG Canada: CANFAR Australia: AAL Japan: NAREGI Others… PRACE Operates the PRACE-RI Research Infrastructure Cloud Computing Infrastructures The astronomical community looks at Cloud Computing as one of the most promising technologies to face its scientific needs

© 2006 Open Grid Forum Topics 19 Jun 2012 Latest news and information on the standardization and interoperability of e-Infrastructures of different nature (Grid middlewares, Cloud Computing infrastructures, the IVOA data e-infrastructure, etc.) Experiences in the implementation of Grid middlewares and public/private Clouds Reports on DCI-based (Grid and Cloud) applications, including access to remote file systems and databases Workflow (Pipeline) systems: workflow languages, workflow management, workflow builders, etc. Implementation of public/private Clouds based on Grid technology

© 2006 Open Grid Forum Topics 19 Jun 2012 Virtualization techniques Collection of requirements on distributed computing infrastructures and data infrastructures coming from projects and research groups which develop and use astronomical applications and workflows This is one of the most critical topics to be handled by entities joining Astro-CG (the GWS-WG in IVOA, the VRCs in EGI, etc.) and eventually to be submitted to the OGF Definition of services and interfaces enabling the requested interoperability between e-Infrastructures of different nature and able to hide the complexity of the underlying technologies The A&A legacy software and its integration in modern computing/data e-Infrastructures

© 2006 Open Grid Forum Current status… 19 Jun 2012 OGF36 (Chicago, IL, USA, October 2012) Astro-CG e-mail list in place astro-cg@ogf.org http://www.ogf.org/mailman/listinfo/astro-cg Web services / Redmine http://redmine.ogf.org/projects/astro-cg First meeting of the Astro-CG at OGF36 This session Focus on the experiences of the astro community with distributed e-Infrastructures deployed in different regions Identify strength points and how to better exploit them Identify weakness points and how to mitigate their effect

© 2006 Open Grid Forum … and next steps 19 Jun 2012 IVOA Interoperability meeting (São Paulo, Brazil, 22-26 October 2012) First report of the IVOA-OGF liaison group at the IVOA Interoperability GWS session. The outcome of this session will be reported there IVOA is very important because: It operates the most important astronomical data e- Infrastructure All big astronomical projects interact with IVOA and its standards We have to achieve this objective also for DCIs and Astro-CG is the right place to do that Interoperability between DCIs and DDIs is still one of the hot topics to pursue
