Le Réveillon de Noël

It takes place on Christmas Eve (24 th December)

Family gather for a big, festive meal

The meal comprises of ‘une dinde de Noël’ and finishes with ‘La bûche de Noël’

Other delicacies include : saumon fumé, foie gras, fruits de mer (huitres, ect.)

In the South of France it is the tradition to have 13 deserts (treize desserts) in remembrance of Jesus and his 12 apostles

Children stay up and await for Père Noel to come and deliver the presents

At midnight, Pere Noel comes and delivers the presents

People kiss and wish each other ‘Joyeux Noel’. Children and adults open their presents.
