1 Weathering and Erosion By: Lindsey Iames & Mikaela White

2 Types of Weathering Chemical Mechanical

3 Agents of Weathering Rainwater Oxygen Carbon dioxide Plant decay acids
These are all examples of chemical erosion. They are called agents

4 Soil Horizons There are three horizons (A,B,C) in soils.

5 A Horizon Topsoil Dark Organic material

6 B Horizon Subsoil contains clay soluble minerals

7 C Horizon slightly weathered parent material rock fragments.

8 Major soil types There are two major soil types.
The two types are Pedocals and Pedalfers.

9 Agents of erosion Water-beaches and rivers Ice-glaciers
Gravity-landslides Wind-sand dune

10 Question 1 Which horizon is made up of slightly weathered parent material and rock fragments. A. C Horizon B. A Horizon C. B Horizon

11 Right Good Job!!

12 Wrong Try again

13 Question 2 Which is NOT an agent of weathering? A. Rainwater B. Soil
C. Plant decay

14 Right Nice work!!

15 Wrong Try again

16 List two types and four Agents of Weathering
Chemical Mechanical Four Agents Rainwater Oxygen Carbon Dioxide Plant Decay Acids

17 List and Describe each soil horizon, and how each develops.
A Horizon-Topsoil, Dark, Organic material B Horizon-Subsoil, contains clay, soluble minerals C Horizon-Slightly Weathered parent material, rock fragments

18 Water-Beaches and Rivers Ice-Glaciers Gravity-Landslides
List four agents of erosion, and describe the landforms associated with each Water-Beaches and Rivers Ice-Glaciers Gravity-Landslides Wind-Sand Dune
