6 Needing help doesn't make you weak, in fact quite the opposite
Needing help doesn't make you weak, in fact quite the opposite. It makes you strong, smart, resourceful, and realistic. Being prideful is a weakness. Asking for help when you know you're in over your head is STRENGTH. Class Rule #5

7 The school's grading policy and late work policy will be used for all assignments, tests, quizzes, projects, etc. Tests and Quizzes: 40% of Six Weeks Grade Daily Work/Discussion: 50% of Six Weeks Grade Six Weeks Reading Project: 10% of Six Weeks Grade Many of you are involved in extracurricular activities. If you know you will be absent from school ahead of time, please get your assignments before leaving.  Feel free to turn in any of those assignments prior to your absence. If you do not turn assignments in early, they are due when you return. Grading Policies

8 All work that is not turned in when the teacher calls for it is considered late.
Work turned in on the same day or the day after it was due will receive a grade of 75% of the grade originally earned. Example: If you turn in an assignment the day after it is due and you score an 80 on that assignment, you will receive a grade of (80 x .75=60) Late work not turned in by the day following the original due date will automatically receive a grade of zero (0). WHS Late Work Policy

9 WHS MAKE-UP WORK POLICY
A student who is absent for one to four days will be given three days to make up missed assignments. If you are absent five or more consecutive days, make-up assignments will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Make-up work which is not turned in on time will receive a grade of zero. 11 Assignments You will have English assignments on most nights. It is important that you complete each night’s reading or written assignment promptly, or you will quickly fall behind in class. When you are given a reading assignment, it is highly likely that you will have a quiz over the assignment as soon as you return to class. Be prepared! Homework

12 Attitude and Behavior ~Everyone deserves respect. Give it – get it.
~Come to class with a positive and willing attitude! An open mind is a great asset.     ~Always put forth your best effort!  Grades are earned, not given, so be sure to do your best at all times. ~You are a role model for younger students.  Display behavior that you want them to look up to and admire. ~Some of our reading selections contain mature content. Please be aware of this, and understand that you will be expected to behave appropriately and maturely at all times. ~CLASS PARTICIPATION IS A MUST!  We will have many class discussions, and you will receive a grade for your contribution to the conversation. Your opinion counts! ~Quite often, you will be expected to work with a group of classmates. Please participate fully, even if this isn’t your favorite setting. Learning to cooperate and work with others is an important life skill. Plus, it’s much more enjoyable than listening to me the entire period! ~Have fun!  If you walk into my room with the attitude that you "have" to be here and it won't be any fun, then you are probably right.  However, if you approach English with a willing attitude, it just might be a blast!  Go wild!  Learn something new! Attitude and Behavior

Phones are to be turned off during school. (Not on silent - OFF.) ***There are times when I will let you use your phone on a class assignment. Please don’t take advantage of this! Please use the restroom and get a drink between classes. Respect yourself and respect others. Be polite!  Manners are a must. Please help keep our classroom clean. Class Expectations

14 Class Expectations (Continued)
No students will be allowed behind the teacher’s desk or in the teacher’s chair without permission. Do not speak while I am speaking or while another student is speaking.  It is terribly rude. If you have a concern, please visit with me. Be honest.  (Cheating and plagiarism fall under this rule.) Do your best every day! Class Expectations (Continued)
