2 MS Announcements: Monday, Feb. 4 th Middle School 1.Attention 8 th grade girls: If you are interested in playing high school girls soccer this fall, there will be an informational meeting in Mr. Cotrell’s room today, after school, until 3:15. Make sure you can attend. If you can’t attend, be sure to see Mr. Cotrell at the end of the day today. 2.Attention 8 th grade girls. If you are interested in trying out to be a majorette or in flag corps this coming fall, there will be flag and majorette try-outs from Feb. 19-22. Sign-up sheets are located in the cafeteria and band room. Wear tennis shoes to try-outs. Any questions, see Katie Overholt. 3.Next 6 th Grade Lego Club meeting will be today - Monday, Feb. 4 th in Mr. Barhorst’s room, after school until 4:00. 4.MS Yearbook meeting on Wednesday from 3:00-3:45 to finish pages. 5.Middle School Science Olympiad team had a very successful day at the Solon Invitational on Saturday. This tournament hosted 59 teams including 7 of the top 10 teams in the nation. We placed in four events and had a very positive experience. 6.Middle School Yearbooks are now on sale through Wednesday, Feb. 6th. This is the only time that the yearbooks will be for sale. The middle school yearbook is a softcover, 44+ color pages that are a student-designed publication. The cover also features the student’s name. For families with more than one student in the middle school, more than one name can be placed on the cover. The total cost per yearbook is $22. Cash or checks (made out to West Liberty-Salem Schools). To order, please return your order form along with cash or a check in a sealed envelope with your name and grade on the front. 6th grade students will return orders to their homeroom teacher. 7th and 8th grade students will return orders to their first period teacher. 7. Attention 8 th graders - Are you an 8 th grader who wants to take college classes on a college campus next year as a ninth grader? If so, this announcement is for you. On Monday, February, 4 from 6:30-8:00 pm, the HS Guidance Office will be sponsoring its annual Post Secondary Education Options Program Mandatory Counseling Meeting in the WL-S Media Center. This is a required information/counseling session for students entering grades 9-12 for the 2013-2014 school year who wish to leave the WLS campus to take college courses while in high school. Please stop in the HS Guidance Office if you have any questions. This meeting is only required for those eighth graders and parents who are interested in taking college courses on a college campus during ninth grade. MS Athletics 1.The 7th Grade Boys opened up tourney play with a 50-17 win over South Vienna on Saturday. James Loffing led scoring with 15pts, while Thomas Allen had 8pts and Brennan Oder 7. WL-S (15-1) will play SCC in the second round this Tuesday at Home at 5:00pm. 2.The 8th Grade Boys opened up tourney play with a 68-8 win over Mechanicsburg. Brandon Wolfe led scoring with 14pts, Jerret Smith finished with 12pts, Tyler Louden added 9pts, Kannon Stillings 8pts and Chase Humphrey chipped in 7pts. WL-S (13-3) will host Triad in the second round this Thursday at Home at 5:00pm. 3.OHC CHAMPIONS! The 7th grade Lady Tigers won the OHC Championship on Saturday, defeating the Greeneview Rams 33-23 in the final contest of the season. The Tigers, who finish their season 17-1 fell behind in the first quarter 8-9. However, the Tigers settled in by the second quarter, seeing some great perimeter shooting giving them the lead 20-14 by halftime. The Tigers came out poised defensively in the second half, giving up only 2 points in the fourth quarter. Jonni Parker had 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 steals. Taylor Lauck had 6 points, 2 steals, and 1 assist and Aubrie Stillings grabbed 6 rebounds and had 1 3-pointer. Laine Godwin also had 3 points for the Tigers, along with 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Rounding out scoring for the Tigers were Tory Cordell and Kenedie Cox with 2 points a piece. 4.The 8th grade Lady Tigers came up short of a repeat OHC Championship, dropping to the Miami View Trojans 29-38. The Tigers went into the locker room at the half down 11 points. They chipped away and were within four points late in the 4th quarter, but could not get some key shots to fall. Final efforts sent the Trojans to the line, where they 5 for 8 in the final minutes of the game. For the Lady Tigers, Lily Yoder had 16 points, 4 steals, and 9 rebounds. Rounding out scoring for the Tigers were Olivia Ames with 6 points, and Mikalia McIntosh with 6 points. Kiana Reames pulled down 5 rebounds for the Tigers as well. Congratulations Lady Tigers on another successful season. 5.Our middle school wrestling team finished up the season at the OHC tournament on Saturday. Levi Moell was crowned OHC champion at the 80-pound weight class. Our other three wrestlers fought hard as well.
