3 When they came? Mother’s Side Nicholas Sata came to the United States on a cattle boat to Ellis Island, New York in 1920 Gizella (Nagy) Sata came to the United States on a passenger boat to Ellis Island, New York in 1923 Father’s Side Robert Lynch came to the United States on a passenger boat to Ellis Island, New York in 1933 Susan (Reynolds) Lynch came to the United States on a passenger boat with her husband Robert Lynch, to Ellis Island, New York in 1933

4 Why they came? Mother’s Side Nicholas Sata’s family moved to the U.S. to escape the poverty in Europe. He worked for 43 years at Rouge Steel as a factory worker starting at 17 cents an hour in Dearborn, MI Gizella Sata’s family moved to the U.S. for better job opportunities than what they had in Europe. She got a job washing dishes at Sanders starting at 6 cents an hour in Detroit, MI Father’s Side Robert Lynch moved himself and his wife to the U.S. for a better job opportunity. He worked for 35 years at Michigan Central Railroad as a shipping freight filler starting at 19 cents an hour in Detroit, MI Susan Lynch came with her husband for a better life too. She never worked once they moved to Michigan because they decided to start raising a family

5 Where they immigrated from? Mother’s Side My Great Grandpa immigrated from Hungary My Great Grandma also immigrated from Hungary Father’s Side My Great Grandpa immigrated from Ireland My Great Grandma came with him (they were married)

6 Where they moved to? Mother’s Side My Great Grandpa moved to Detroit, Michigan (1920) in an area where mostly Hungarian people resided called “Delray” My Great Grandma also moved to Detroit, Michigan (1923) in the same area of “Delray” where she and my Great Grandpa met and got married in 1933 Father’s Side My Great Grandpa and Grandma moved to Dearborn, Michigan (1933) because of the close proximity to the railroads where he was employed
