2 Formatting Numbers 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 3.Select number category in number tab sheet 4.Select no of decimal places, usage of 1,000 separator and negative number representation 5.Click ok 6.You can use increase decimal and decrease decimal buttons in formatting tool bar to controls no of decimal places

3 Formatting Currency 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 3.Select currency category in number tab sheet 4.Select no of decimal places, currency symbol and negative number representation 5.Click ok 6.To insert Rs. as currency symbol in OS use regional and language option settings in control panel 7.You can use currency button in formatting tool bar

4 Formatting Date 1.Use DATE function to insert date into a cell eg. =DATE(2006,6,10) 2.Select cell or cell range 3.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select date category in number tab sheet 5.Select date type and location 6.Click ok 7.To change date type in OS use regional and language option settings in control panel

5 Formatting Time 1.Use TIME function to insert time into a cell eg. =TIME(9,45,10) 2.Select cell or cell range 3.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select time category in number tab sheet 5.Select time type and location 6.Click ok 7.To change time type in OS use regional and language option settings in control panel

6 Entering Percentage 1.Type percentage eg. 12%  0.12 2.Select cell or cell range 3.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select percentage category in number tab sheet 5.Select no of decimal places 6.Click ok 7.You can use percent style button in formatting tool bar

7 Formatting Text 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select text category in number tab sheet 6.Click ok

8 Changing Alignment in a Cell 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select alignment tab sheet 5.Select horizontal text alignment and vertical text alignment 6.If you select horizontal alignment as left indent or right indent then select indent value 7.Click ok 8.Horizontal alignment buttons and increase decrease indent buttons in formatting tool bar

9 Changing Orientation in a Cell 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select alignment tab sheet 5.Select orientation between in -90 degrees and 90 degrees 6.Click ok

10 Wrapping Text in a Cell 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select alignment tab sheet 5.Select wrap text check box in text control 6.Click ok

11 Shrinking Text in a Cell 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select alignment tab sheet 5.Select shrink to fit check box in text control 6.Click ok

12 Merging Cells 1.Select two or more cell 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select alignment tab sheet 5.Select merge cells check box in text control 6.Click ok 7.Merge and Center button in formatting tool bar

13 Formatting Font in a Cell 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select font tab sheet 5.Select font type, style, size, color, underline style and effect 6.Click ok 7.Font formatting buttons in formatting tool bar

14 Formatting Borders 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select border tab sheet 5.Select border color, line, border style 6.Click ok 7.Select none in presets to remove a border 8.Border buttons in formatting tool bar

15 Formatting Shading Color & Pattern 1.Select cell or cell range 2.Format menu, cells menu item or right click on range and click format cells menu item 4.Select pattern tab sheet 5.Select cell shading color, pattern 6.Click ok 7.Select no color to remove a cell shading color 8.Fill color button in formatting tool bar

16 Protecting a Worksheet 1.Select worksheet 2.Tools menu, Protection sub menu, Protect sheet menu item 3.Select permissions for all users 4.Type password to protect worksheet and click ok 5.Re-enter password and click ok 6.Tools, Protection, Unprotect sheet and enter password to remove a protection of a worksheet
