Matt. 24:30-31 KJV 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. A s I read these verses, I noticed the entire surrounding Scripture context was preceded by a description of the great tribulation. My immediate thought was Jesus, I believed there would be a pre- tribulation rapture of the church and I would leave this old earth be- fore all this awful suffering takes place and all these judgments mentioned in the book of Revelation are poured out from heaven on the inhabitants of the earth. ​ I had always believed the church is going up into the heavens when the Lord returns and the dead in Christ shall rise out of the grave and the alive in Christ are taken up into heaven. I am upset Jesus! Help me to know truth! And I really thought no way Jesus; am I going to be beheaded during the tribulation for your name's sake and word as in Rev. 20:4 for refusing the mark of the beast? This blew my blessed hope about the second coming of Christ out of the water for a while. ​ T hen, I realized; this is the Messiah (the Christ or Christos) speaking to the Jewish disciples in this first reference and then later to the high priest just prior to his crucifixion. Then, I thought is this really the rapture of the church or is it the restoration of the House of Israel? ​ W hy do I say this? ​ F irst, the book of Matthew was written to the Jews and focused on the proof of the lineage and deity of Christ, the Messiah. This led me to look at other parts of the verse and other verses. The title Jesus uses to describe himself is the Son of Man. This title reinforces his deity as the Messiah born of the virgin spoken of in Isaiah 7:14 as Immanuel and as the Word of God that became flesh and dwelt on earth in John 1:14. Speaking to the high priest in Matthew 24:64 when asked the question, "Are you the Christ?" Jesus replied "Yes, it is as you say". And again, in Mark 14:62, "I am", the Christ, the Messiah and you will see me coming as the Son of Man or the Word of God in or on the clouds. BOOM... So, I searched Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance and found a very familiar Scripture as the second reference in the list. You may know it yourself. You may have even misappropriated these verses of Scripture many times when preaching or teaching God’s word. Here, I found Ezekiel prophesying, calling for the four winds to come and then for breath to breathe life into the dry bones. Ezek. 37:1-14 NIV 1 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I said, "O Sovereign Lord, you alone know." 4 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones and say to them, 'Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.'" 7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. They say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.' 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.'" I thought, Oh my God! I have never seen the resurrection of the dead in this Scripture before. This has been so abused and misappropriated by ministers everywhere. ​ T hen, I thought; this is addressed to the dead bones of the house of Israel. Is this their redemption? I do not know for sure but this looks like the resurrection of the dead, dead bones being given a body and new life. Notice the graves open, the dead are raised up, and settled in the land of Israel! ​ BOOM…BOOM... BA BOOM… BOOM! ​ T hen, I thought my God! God how can this be? Life was breathed over the house of Israel centuries ago and it has not been fulfilled yet. Then I realized that with God time is different. A day to God can be like a thousand years to humans. ​ T hen, I noticed the original text from Matt. 24:30 KJV says that “all the tribes of the earth shall mourn”. This spurred me on to look at the references from the concordance which contained both “four winds” and "tribes". I found in Revelation; the four winds being held back so that the tribes of Israel could receive the mark of the living God on their foreheads. N o winds were blowing, just the breath breathing life on the tribes of Israel in Ezekiel. Is this the house of Israel receiving the seal or mark of the living God after the tribulation spoken of in Revelation? Rev. 7:1-5, 8-10 NIV 1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. Box 951, Oak Hill, Florida 32759 The Son of Man Coming in the Clouds… 8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000. 9 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.“ Rev. 7:13-14 NIV 13 Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes — who are they, and where did they come from?" 14 I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ​ T hese have come out of the great tribulation? Ezekiel was taken by God’s Holy Spirit to a forward point in time to speak a word over the house of Israel that would not be fulfilled until after the tribulation. These are they that have come out of the great tribulation? ​​ Revelation, Chronological Exposition? W hat follows next in Revelation seems to be out of place or almost backwards. On the one hand, the book of Ezekiel is arranged chronologically according to the Nelson KJV Study Bible. Box 951, Oak Hill, Florida 32759 The Son of Man Coming in the Clouds… history line by line because it is prophecy recorded at the time that it was spoken and speaks of things yet to come. On the other hand, Revelation does not seem arranged in chronological order. Although some sections or passages can be explained line by line, Revelation seems more like a huge mural on the ceiling of a cathedral with smaller scenes dispersed here and there with detail. All the smaller scenes are combined to create this magnificent apocalyptic masterpiece. A s we study this apocalyptic masterpiece, the book of Revelation, it is important to keep in mind that this book is very difficult to read and understand because it uses symbols to portray what is in the mind and heart of the Son of God. Revelation seems to be a big picture outline overview of the spiritual battle with Satan for all of these climatic events that will come and some that have already taken place. Then, more detail is added to the outline overview. Then, some things seem to be repeated for emphasis to take us back to the big picture to refocus us again. It seems as if Jesus takes John, the recorder of the book of Revelation, on little side journeys to explain key detailed scenes of the big picture. Last to First? U ntil recently, I had never seen Revelation in this light before. Immediately, I started to read the book of Revelation backwards. Box 951, Oak Hill, Florida 32759 The Son of Man Coming in the Clouds… I did this because John was taken by God’s Holy Spirit to a point in time to the future day of forever judgment called the Lord’s Day in Revelation 1:10 NIV. John was in the Spirit and heard a voice like a trumpet standing behind him. John had to turn back to see who was speaking to him and turn back to see what was going to happen before the great eternal judgment day because he was out in front in the future. To me, it seemed like John may have had a view of the things to come from LAST to FIRST! BOOM… BOOM…BOOM! T hen, I thought; could some of Revelation, after the letters to the churches, have been recorded from the end events to the beginning and then back again? Unique View of Revelation? R evelation is a book I termed a prophet book as I studied because it was recorded by an Apostolic Prophet. But the book of Revelation is canonized, set as standard by ecclesiastical authority, as an Apocalypse which means the unveiling of something previously hidden. This specific definition qualifies the book of Revelation as a product of one of the functions of a prophet’s gift or office. It seems to be a disjointed book to me that cannot be chronologically followed in some places. Box 951, Oak Hill, Florida 32759 The Son of Man Coming in the Clouds… contrary to public opinion and contrary to the opinion of all the big name end time teachers, my study of these scriptures has convinced me that all us have missed God in past attempts to interpret this unusual prophetic Revelation. This unique view or never seen glimpse of Revelation, through my eyes as a servant of the Lord, seems to be a picture of the battle fought with Satan in the heavens and earth possibly from the birth of Jesus Christ to the death of Christ to the return and conquest of the earth by the Son of Man coming in the Clouds as the Word of God who will reign as Kings of Kings and Lord of Lords for one thousand years! Companion Book to the Gospels? R evelation focuses on the spiritual view much like the gospel of John. Is the book of Revelation almost like a companion book revealing the parallel spiritual aspects of some key events of the New Testament or gospels? W hy do I say this? I say this for many reasons but these two reasons cannot be ignored in my heart and mind. Box 951, Oak Hill, Florida 32759 The Son of Man Coming in the Clouds… S econd, I found a picture of what I think is the release from heaven spiritually of the great commission to proclaim the gospel. D oes anyone else see these things? T hese two events recorded in Revelation along with others have created such great doubts in my mind to all the previous teaching I have had on the subject of end times. I just had to throw it all out of my heart and into the trash so that I could see with God’s eyes what is being portrayed as the heart and mind of the Son of God. I began to see in a different light a huge battle that took place spiritually on earth and in the heavens in the book of Revelation. Is this book of Revelation a companion to several gospels bearing the second witness to certain events from a spiritual point of view? Birth of the Son of Man? T he gospel of John does not record the birth of the Son of Man like other gospels do. John 1:1 NIV says “In the beginning was the Word”, who is the written Christ, “who was with God and was God”. He is the Alpha and Omega, the First and Last, the Beginning and the End. Because of this view in the gospel of John, there is no record of the birth of the virgin born child named Jesus in his gospel. L et’s take a look at John’s depiction of what I cannot ignore as evidence of the spiritual battle in the heaven and on earth surrounding the birth of Christ. I n the middle of the book of Revelation, there is a woman who gives birth to a son. In this story picture, there is also a dragon who I think symbolizes Satan, the anti- Christ spirit of Herod, who waged war against the woman and her baby. The woman flees and hides in the desert for several years until the danger is passed. Rev. 12:5-8 NIV 5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. 6 The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days. 7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. A s I read this segment of Scripture, the words jumped off the page as a picture of John’s spiritual view of the birth of the ruler of all nations, the birth of the Son of Man, the birth of Jesus Christ, the birth of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who was snatched up to God and his throne. They were warned in a dream to go to the desert until the danger passed. During this time the great dragon destroyed all the babies the same age as the Christ child. Matt. 2:12-22 NIV 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. 13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." 14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." 16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: 18 "A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more." 19 After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead." 21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, BOOM... KABOOM... N ow, let’s take a look at John’s depiction of what I cannot ignore as evidence of the spiritual unleashing from heaven of the great commission to proclaim the eternal gospel by Jesus Christ. Several chapters later in the book of Revelation, there is a picture of an angel releasing spiritually the command to proclaim the eternal gospel over the earth from heaven. A s I studied and compared the gospel of John with other gospels, I found John does not have a record of what most churches have termed the “Great Commission” to “Go, ye into all the world and preach the gospel” as in Mark 16:15 KJV. I had never really noticed there is only one witness in all the gospels of the “Go ye and preach” (to proclaim). Rev. 14:6 NIV 6 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth — to every nation, tribe, language and people. I s this picture of the angel what John saw happen spiritually when Jesus spoke the words and empowered every believer, past, present, and future, to “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”? But, there is only one Scripture reference to the go and preach in the gospels just prior to the death of Jesus. Mark 16:15 KJV 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. T he commission from Jesus to the Apostles in Matthew to go and teach and baptize all nations is not the same as the commission from Jesus to go and preach in Mark and Revelation. Matt 28:19 KJV 19 Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: I am convinced that this picture of the angel releasing the everlasting or eternal gospel is the second reference of the great commission from Jesus to the apostles to go and preach the gospel to all the world.
