CONSIDER…. WHEN FACED WITH THE FOLLOWING EXTERNAL CONFLICT… A shy 6 th grade boy who keeps to himself. An outspoken 6 th grade bully who physically and verbally threatens children. An 8 th grade bully comes and pushes him…. How does the shy boy react? How does the bully react?
What changes about the conflict based on the characterization of the children? How are conflict and characterization connected? The way in which a person is characterized can either help predict what types of conflict they will get into or how they will resolve a conflict.
CONSIDER THE PRIOR EXAMPLES WITH THE BULLY. HERE ARE SOME POSSIBLE RESOLUTIONS: WHAT IS THE MESSAGE OF THE STORY BASED ON EACH RESOLUTION? The shy boy runs away and spends his time dodging all bullies for the rest of his life. The 6 th grade bully is so humiliated by the attack that he changes his ways and becomes a model citizen. The shy boy stands up for himself and is able to deflect an attack through verbal communication Avoid danger at all costs. Do unto others and you would want done unto you. Verbal communication is the best solution to an altercation.
