5 1. What is the difference between a calorie and a Calorie? A calorie is the amount of heat needed to raise 1 gram of water 1 degree celcius. A Calorie measures food energy, and is equal to 1000 calories (1 Kilocalorie)

6 2. How many Calories are in 1 gram of: – Fat = 9 Calories – Carbohydrate = 4 Calories – Protein = 4 Calories – (Alcohol) = 7 Calories (not a necessary nutrient)

7 3. How many Calories on average do you need daily? Teenage boys on average need 2800 Calories per day. Teenage girls on average need 2200 Calories per day. Active individuals need more than the above listed amount.
