M.G. Chemicals Solutions for the Electronic Evolution
2
Who is M.G. Chemicals b Canada’s leading line of servicing chemicals and cleaners for industrial electronics b ISO 9001 b Manufacturing site in Toronto, Ontario b Head office in Vancouver, British Columbia b Shipping points in Sumas, Washington and Buffalo, New York
3
Threadlocking b Why Threadlockers? b Key Benefits b Selection Process b Application tips b Questions?
4
Why Threadlockers? b The solution to vibrational loosening b Loosening of fasteners creates: warranty problemswarranty problems reliability issuesreliability issues unscheduled shutdown of equipmentunscheduled shutdown of equipment
5
Key Benefits b Eliminate expensive locking devices b Increase reliability and quality to assemblies b One drop prevents loosening and ensures a secure hold b You can pick the strength b Stop corrosion b Seal threads b Improve torque control b Reduce galling b Minimize inventories
6
Selection Process b Questions to ask: Do you need a Threadlocker that can be removed or one that is permanent?Do you need a Threadlocker that can be removed or one that is permanent? –Available in permanent and removeable What size thread are you locking? What size thread are you locking? –Available in a variety of strengths to lock any size fastener Is the application a blind hole or a thru-hole?Is the application a blind hole or a thru-hole? –Application methods differ. Refer to “Application Tips” Are there threadlockers for pre-assembled bolts? Are there threadlockers for pre-assembled bolts? –Wicking grade threadlockers are available that secure set screws and other assemblies after settings are complete.

Selection Process continues… b Questions to ask continues… What kind of metal(s) will be used? What kind of metal(s) will be used? –On two inactive metals such as stainless steel, zinc, magnesium, black oxide, cadmium, anodized aluminum, passivated, titanium, and others, a primer is required. –If only one inactive metal, no primer is needed.

F.A.Q b How do I disassemble parts? What is the procedure? Standard hand tools are used for disassembling low and medium strength threadlockers.Standard hand tools are used for disassembling low and medium strength threadlockers. Heat is required for high strength threadlockers.Heat is required for high strength threadlockers. –Apply localized heat to nut or stud for 5 minutes at 450 F. Disassemble while hot. b Can I use threadlockers on plastic threads? This is not recommended as softening and/or stress cracking can occur. This is not recommended as softening and/or stress cracking can occur.

F.A.Q Continues… b I have excess squeeze-out of threadlocker product. Why hasn’t it cured? The product will only cure in the absence of air—anaerobic. The product will only cure in the absence of air—anaerobic. b I used a permanent threadlocker on a blind hole application and the fastener still backed out with vibration. Why? The key to blind hole application requires that the product be applied to both parts. If the product is only applied to the fastener, air pressure will force the liquid threadlocker to escape as you torque it down. Air pockets are created due to lack of uniform coverage. This causes incomplete cures which result in failures. The key to blind hole application requires that the product be applied to both parts. When Is A Primer Required? b Inactive metals: Primers are required when a Threadlocker is applied to two inactive metals. Inactive metals: stainless steel, zinc, magnesium, black oxide, cadmium, anodized aluminum, passivated, titanium, impregnated metals.Inactive metals: stainless steel, zinc, magnesium, black oxide, cadmium, anodized aluminum, passivated, titanium, impregnated metals.
