Reports Many of you will be very pleased with your reports next week. There are several possible reasons for this: 1) You achieved many A’s and U’s Achievement Level Range of levels of Achievement Personal Profiles Range of Performance Overall Achievement H = Highly developed A = Always O = Outstanding C = Competent U = Usually H = High D = DevelopingS = SometimesS = Sound E = Experiencing DifficultyR = RarelyB = Basic U= UnsatisfactoryL = Limited

Personal Profiles Achievement Level Range of levels of Achievement Personal Profiles Range of Performance Overall Achievement H = Highly developed A = Always O = Outstanding C = Competent U = Usually H = High D = DevelopingS = SometimesS = Sound E = Experiencing DifficultyR = RarelyB = Basic U= UnsatisfactoryL = Limited These scores are the MOST important part of your report. They reflect how much effort you have put in. Good results are fantastic, however, if you are someone who achieves good results easily, without really trying and get many S’s and an average comment, this reflects your effort. If you are someone who really works hard for your results, which may not seem excellent, but you get mostly A’s, this reflects your effort. If I were an employer I would hire the person with the lower scores but who works harder. If you do both, Well Done indeed

Results 2) You achieved a great result through hard work There is nothing like that feeling of pride when you achieve a great score you know you have worked really hard for. Because we are all different with different abilities, what is great for one person will be different to what is great for another. Remember this: If you have really tried your best you can be very proud of your result, regardless of what it is. Achievement Level Range of levels of Achievement Personal Profiles Range of Performance Overall Achievement H = Highly developedA = Always O = Outstanding C = CompetentU = Usually H = High D = DevelopingS = Sometimes S = Sound E = Experiencing DifficultyR = RarelyB = Basic U= UnsatisfactoryL = Limited

Teacher Comments 3) Like your Personal Profiles, your teachers comments reflect your efforts. They also describe your progress and give you advice for how to improve next time. If you receive a great comment, be proud. This means your teacher genuinely believes you have done well, regardless of your numerical result or ranking. Comments such as: “well mannered, co-operative, enthusiastic, conscientious and a pleasure to have in class”, are ones you want to be reading in your report. Remember, your teachers want to see you do the absolute best you can. So do yourself a favour and when your teacher gives you advice for improvement TAKE IT !

In Conclusion Remember Year 8, you only get out what you put in. If you are a little disappointed with your report don’t use it as an excuse to “throw in the towel”. Instead, use it as a learning experience and ask yourself “ What can I do better next time?” Believe it or not, the “building blocks” you lay here at school will stay with you for many years after you leave. I’m Talking About * Your work ethic. ( how hard you work ) * Your attitude. Is it positive or negative? * You being the agent of change. Because ultimately, you’re the only one who can change your life.
