Men of Faith – March, 2010

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Making Disciples If I had my life to live over again, I would live it to change the lives of men, because you havent changed anything until youve changed the lives of men. (Warren Webster) The purpose of the church (thats us) why we exist is to glorify God. The mission of the church is to make disciples. (Patrick M. Morley) Paul taught Timothy; Timothy shared what he knew with faithful men; these faithful men would then teach others also. If every believer followed this pattern, the church could reach the entire world in one generation! Mass crusades in which I believe and to which I have committed my life, will never finish the Great Commission; but a one on one ministry will. (Billy Graham) Where is your man? (Dawson Trottman) Where is your man? (Dawson Trottman)

Men of Faith – Review of December, 2009 & February, 2010 December, 2009 - Vision Where there is no vision, the people perish. (Proverbs 29:18) February, 2010 – Reproduction, Definitions, Everyone makes disciples – what kind do you make?, (2 Timothy 2:2), (1 Thessalonians 3:8 )

Men of Faith – March & April, 2010 March, 2010 – Models for making disciples: - John The Baptist – voice in the widerness - Paul – Selection with a view toward the future - Jesus - Come and see, Follow me, Be with me, Be like me, Go for me - Modern Methods – Church, Sunday School, Seminars, Outside in & Inside out Christians -How to discussion – What do you do? -April – Spiritual Disciplines

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Models of Disciple Making John the Baptist - Voice in the wilderness – Make straight the way of the Lord. - Witness in the midst of you stands one whom you know not - Sent to baptize unto repentance in water, but witnessed of one who would baptize in the Holy Spirit. - An unworthy prophet of the coming of messiah behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! - I have seen and have born witness that this is the Son of God. - He sent his disciples to Jesus.

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Models of Disciple Making Paul - Chose those he would disciple. - Invested heavily (commitment) in them (time, effort, communication) - For him, disciple making was a relational effort. - He made an investment, expecting a future return. - 2 Timothy 2:2, 1 Thessalonians 3:8 - 1 Corinthians 11:1 Be imitators of me, just as I am of Christ

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Gods Multiplication Table Paul to Timothy to faithful men to others And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. (2 Timothy 2:2) And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. (2 Timothy 2:2) >>>>>>Others >>>>>>Others >>>>>>> Faithful Men >>>>>>> Faithful Men >>>>>>Others >>>>>>Others Paul >>>>>>Timothy >>>>>>Others >>>>>>Others >>>>>>>>Faithful Men >>>>>>>>Faithful Men >>>>>>Others >>>>>>Others

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Gods Multiplication Table: - Imagine a single grain of wheat on square one of a checker board. Move over one square and double the grain (2) and so on across the board…(4)…(8)…(16)…(32)… - Eventually the wheat would spill out of the square and then off the sides of the board. - By the time you reach the 64 th square? - 6,917,000,000,000,000,000 (quintillion) grains of wheat.

Men of Faith - March, 2010 Our Desire is to be like Christ? There is no more Christ-like activity anyone will ever undertake than to make World Visionary, World Impacting, Reproducing Disciples. Paul, in 1 Corinthians 11:1 Be imitators of me, just as I am of Christ

Men of Faith - March, 2010 Jesus Model of Making Disciples: Come and see (John 1:39, 1:46) Follow me (Mat 4:19, 8:22, 9:9, 10:38, 16:24, 19:21, Mark 1:17, 2:14, 8:34, 10:21, Luke 5:27, 9:23, 9:59, 14:27, Mark 1:17, 2:14, 8:34, 10:21, Luke 5:27, 9:23, 9:59, 14:27, 18:22, John 1:43, 12:26, 21:19, 21:22 ) 18:22, John 1:43, 12:26, 21:19, 21:22 ) Be with me (Mark 3:14) Be Like me (Mat 10:25, Luke 6:47) Go for me (Mat 28:19, Mark 16:15-16, Luke 24:47, John 20:21, Acts 1:8)

Men of Faith - March, 2010 Jesus Model – How does Jesus Look at us? And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, He said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona. Thou shalt be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, A stone). (John 1:42) - Jesus looked at Simon and saw Peter. Not what he was, but what he would become. - Is that how Jesus looks at us? - Can we look at those we disciple the way Jesus looked at Peter? - Lets look at The Twelve.

Men of Faith - March, 2010 Jesus Model of Making Disciples The Twelve: They were: Common Men – 12 men, mostly fishermen, all but one from Galilee, no teachers, no scholars Chosen Men – In sports, why do you choose someone? Convicted Men – All of them could have left at any moment. What did Peter say? (John 6:68) "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Controlled Men – He chose them built them and then sent them out to take on the world.

Men of Faith - March, 2010 The Twelve Matthew 10:1-4Mark 3:14-19Luke 6:12-16Acts 1:13 Simon (called Peter) Andrew James, son of Zebedee John Philip Bartholomew Thomas Matthew James son of Alphaeus Thaddaeus Simon the Zealot Judas Iscariot

Men of Faith - March, 2010 The Twelve Matthew 10:1-4Mark 3:14-19Luke 6:12-16Acts 1:13 Simon (called Peter) AndrewJames, son of Zebedee John Andrew Philip Bartholomew ThomasMatthew Thomas James son of Alphaeus Thaddaeus Simon the Zealot Judas Iscariot

Men of Faith - March, 2010 The Twelve Matthew 10:1-4Mark 3:14-19Luke 6:12-16Acts 1:13 Simon (called Peter) Peter AndrewJames, son of ZebedeeAndrewJohn James, son of ZebedeeJohnJames JohnAndrewJohnAndrew Philip Bartholomew Thomas Matthew Bartholomew MatthewThomas Matthew James son of Alphaeus Thaddaeus Simon the Zealot Judas son of James Judas Iscariot

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Group #1 - All men of action - Evidently all knew each other (fished together from same village) - Dynamic forceful men - At least some if not all followed John the Baptist and were sent to Jesus - Looking for the Messiah - Simon Peter = leader = always first to speak step forward (man with foot in mouth disease. - Andrew = one who brought people to Jesus - Jesus taught the twelve, but these were special. He always gave them more instruction than the others, especially P, J & J. May have left Andrew behind to watch the others when he took P, J, J with him.

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Group #2 - Men of Philosophy, Thinkers, Planners. - Matthew wrote the philosophical Gospel to the Jews. - Never trust the world to a philosopher - Philip was their leader. Group #3 - Radicals - James, son of Alphaeus was probably the most stable. - If he had the chance to do so, Simon the Zealot would have killed Matthew before he encountered Jesus. - Judas Iscariot (who betrayed Jesus) was the only disciple not from Galilee.

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Modern Methods: - Church Believers, Laity, Clergy - Evangelism Filling bottles with a bucket versus a watering can - Sunday School Sit and hear works – maybe, sometimes, a little - Seminars No – Jesus was not a noted seminar speaker! - Books Depends on the book, maybe, for the already fully committed Whats Wrong With the Masters Method?

Men of Faith – March, 2010 Whats Wrong With the Masters Method? Satan has beat us if he can keep us inactive or actively doing the wrong stuff. I believe that is why Satan puts all his efforts into getting the Christian busy, busy, busy but not producing. Men, where is your man? Where is your boy? Women, where is your woman? Where is your girl? Where is the one you led to Christ and who is now going on with Him? The curse of today is that we are too busy. I am not talking about being busy earning money to buy food. I am talking about being busy doing Christian things. We have spiritual activity with little productivity. And productivity comes as a result of what we call "follow-up." (Dawson Trottman)
