Why is Martin Luther King significant Martin Luther King Jr. was the most important voice of the American civil rights movement. He is well known for using nonviolent resistance to overcome injustice. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 making him the youngest person to ever receive this high honour.

Childhood Martin Luther King Jr was born January 15 th 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. Martin was a middle child. He sang with his church choir at the 1939 Atlanta premiere of the movie Gone with the wind. When he was 13 he denied the resurrection of Jesus during Sunday school. He attended Booker.T.Washington high school

Assassination He was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday April 4, 1968, at the age of 39. Martin was rushes to St Joseph's Hospital. He was announced dead at 7:05pm.
