3. Who are we? UN Peacekeepers What are we doing? Peacekeepers monitor and observe peace processes in post-conflict areas and assist people who were fighting in implementing the peace agreements they may have signed. Why are we doing it? To help peace succeed. They give the UN an impartial unbiased view of what is going on.

PEACEKEEPING FORCES After UN negotiations (and the threat of sanctions) with the Sudanese government, a small peacekeeping force (approx 300 troops) was allowed into Darfur in August 2004 In 2009 15000 were in place. They have had some success in protecting civilians although they themselves have come under attack from both sides on several occasions.
