2 Querer = to want Yo – quieroNosotros - queremos Tú –quieresVosotros – queréis Él Ella - quiere Ud. Ellos Ellas – quieren Uds.

3 Cerrar = to close Yo – cierroNosotros - cerramos Tú –cierrasVosotros – cerráis Él Ella - cierra Ud. Ellos Ellas – cierran Uds.

4 Empezar = to begin Yo – empiezoNosotros - empezamos Tú –empiezasVosotros – empezáis Él Ella - empieza Ud. Ellos Ellas – empiezan Uds.

5 Entender = to understand Yo – entiendoNosotros - entendemos Tú –entiendesVosotros – endtendéis Él Ella - entiende Ud. Ellos Ellas – entienden Uds.

6 Pensar = to think Yo – piensoNosotros - pensamos Tú –piensasVosotros – pensáis Él Ella - piensa Ud. Ellos Ellas – piensan Uds.

7 Preferir = to prefer Yo – prefieroNosotros - preferimos Tú –prefieresVosotros – preferís Él Ella - prefiere Ud. Ellos Ellas – prefieren Uds.

8 A couple of notes… When you are not sure which syllable has the stem change; remember, the second to last syllable always has the stem change! Note – when two verbs are next to each other in a sentence, the first verb is conjugated; the second remain an infinitive. Quiero comer ensalada para la cena.

9 Direct Objects Answers the question… Whom? What? & receives the action of the verb in a sentence. Paco bought the watch.  Verb = bought  Bought whom or bought what? The watch The watch is the direct object

10 Direct object pronouns Direct object pronouns can be used to replace the direct object. Use the following: Me = meNos = us Te = you (fam.) Os = you (fam. & pl.) Lo = you (form.) him, it (masculine) La = you (form.) her, it (feminine) Los = you (form. & pl.); them (masculine) Las = you (form. & pl.); them (feminine)

11 Direct object pronoun placement… DOP’s are placed directly before a conjugated verb When an infinitive follows a conjugated verb, the DOP can be placed either before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive.
