12 Accelerated Reader Five books each nine weeks Tests must be on level within their range Scores must be 60% or higher Can do more books to improve grade AR tests will be taken on Fridays Send book to school for use during test Book levels can be checked by following directions on website

13 Writing Handwriting - we will REVIEW all upper and lower case letters - once all letters are reviewed cursive will be required on all work - example of D’Neilan alphabet provided Paragraphs - We will work on types and parts of a paragraph

14 Spelling The spelling program is based on a two week schedule. 1 st Mon.: Pretest at school Spelling list will come home Tues.-Fri.: Spelling skills instruction at school Study words at home 2 nd Mon.: A Take-home Task will be sent home to compliment the skills we are working on at school. 2 nd Tues.: Take-home Task will be reviewed at school Study words at home 2 nd Wed.: Dictation Sentences at school Study words at home 2 nd Thurs.: Word test and skill test at school 2 nd Fri.: Tests will be reviewed at school. Words to master and practice will be recorded.

19 Behavior/Discipline Individual behavior monitored by a Card System will be rewarded with play money. Twice a nine weeks money will be spent on a special group activity. Group behavior rewarded weekly. Whole class good behavior earns compliments for bubble gum party.

20 Toy Policy The Pickerington Elementary rules do not allow the children to bring toys from home. The third grade has a policy that if a student is caught with a toy from home it will be taken and returned at the end of the school year or a parent may come into school to pick it up. Thank you in advance for your help! For outside recess, students may bring playground balls. (nerf football, basketballs, soccer, etc.)

21 Supplies Please be sure to periodically check with your child to see if they need any new pencils, erasers, glue sticks, etc. Extra Supplies - Please send in something to use as an eraser for dry erase boards. If in need of supplies please contact Mrs. Toopes. No No’s!! - - mechanical pencils - hand held pencil sharpeners
