16 Proprietary Network Paths - Unicast Video Audio ACV Client Audio Bridge IP-Unicast - N Out-Going Video for N endpoints receive N video inputs Audio sent to a centralized Audio Bridge

17 Proprietary Network Paths - Multicast Video Audio ACV Client Audio Bridge IP-Multicast - One Out-Going Video for N endpoints when sending identical streams to the endpoints Still receive N video inputs Audio handled the same way - Not Multicast enabled IGMP Multicast Network Video

18 Proprietary Network Paths - One Way Broadcast Video Audio ACV Client Receiver ACV Client Broadcast ACV Client Receiver Audio Bridge IP-Unicast - N Out-Going Video for N Audio handled the same way - Not Multicast enabled Unicast Network

19 Proprietary Mixing PRO and LITE Clients Video Audio ACV PRO Client ACV PRO Client ACV LITE Client Audio Bridge PRO video in hardware Only MJPEG is encoded/decoded on the PRO Board H.263/MPEG-1 decoded in SW Audio is always encoded/decoded in SW HW - PRO Board HW SW SW - Processor SW HW SW HW

20 Proprietary Mixing PRO and LITE Clients - Cont PRO Client Hardware encodes and decodes MJPEG off-loading processor Software encodes and decodes H.263/261 using processor LITE Client Software decodes MJPEG using processor, currently does not encode MJPEG. Software encodes and decodes H.263/261 using processor

21 Proprietary Mixing PRO and LITE Clients - Cont PRO Client Hardware encodes and decodes MJPEG off-loading processor Software encodes and decodes H.263/261 using processor LITE Client Software decodes MJPEG using processor, currently does not encode MJPEG. Software encodes and decodes H.263/261 using processor So, You cant expect to have one PRO (conference room) with 20 outlying LITE clients. Even though there is a PRO board, all of the video from the LITE clients must be decoded in SW. Only PRO PRO clients take advantage of the HW card

22 Proprietary Mixing Conference and Streaming Video Within a live conference or lecture, a live broadcast can be added to all clients with no problem. Call the broadcasting client as a video server Audio is live in every window, through the audio bridge All clients receive the live broadcast at the same time Within a live conference or lecture, a stored-on-disk broadcast can be added, but the audio is treated differently. Connect to the stored video through the broadcast button, then browse the network or local disk for the video Each client must connect separately Stored Audio does not go the audio bridge: Click on Conference Video to hear conference audio Click on Broadcast Video to hear stored audio Each client receives the stored broadcast at different times

23 Proprietary Mixing Conference and Streaming Video So, just how do you achieve full audio functionality when mixing live and stored videos? There must be separate audio playback devices on the client for the live and stored video/audio streams. Live streams to the ACV PRO board receiving PRO or LITE video and audio. Audio goes through the Audio Bridge. The received stored streaming video is MPEG-1 and either: Decoded in SW on the computer monitor, with the audio coming out of the computers sound system. Decoded in HW using the Optibase MPEG decoder board with the video and audio going to an external video monitor. This cannot be done with just a LITE client, both the live and stored streams will compete for the audio output.

24 Proprietary Looking at bandwidths Video - 200 Kbs is a practical talking heads lower limit. With N connections in a live conference. N input streams, whether IP Unicast or Multicast N output streams for IP Unicast Potentially one output stream for IP Multicast, if each receiving client requests the same video stream. Audio - 35 Kbs is a practical talking heads lower limit. No matter how many connections in a live conference, there is only one audio stream into and out of a client.

25 Proprietary Checking Network Connections Are the clients on the network properly - Check IP address resolution and reverse IP address resolution ping computer-name, returns computer-address ping -a computer-address, returns computer-name All the address and names must match. Test the quality of connection - go to http://www.qcheck.net Install qcheck on all clients Test using the streaming TCP/UDP option, up to 1Mbs Symptoms of bad IP address resolution ACV Calls result in only a one-way and not two-way connections ACV Calls take a very long time to complete Install Microsoft SP6 with hotfix for WinNT and Win2000 Prevents computer lock-up caused by fragmented network packets
