2. 1. A noun can add information to another noun, just as adjectives do. However, unlike English, in Spanish nouns cannot be used as adjectives. This is accomplished by the construction de + noun la barca de madera the wooden boat la casa de verano the summer house

3. 2. When a noun to which an adjective refers is so clear from the context that it can be left out, the adjective follows the article as a noun does. Both the article and the adjective still agree with the omitted noun. Los jóvenes tienen muchas responsabilidades Young people have many responsibilities No pudieron salvar a la anciana They were not able to save the old woman No vivo en la casa azul, sino en la roja I do not live in the blue house, I live in the red house

The neuter article (lo) is used with the masculine singular adjective to form a noun phrase Lo interesante fue que él no recordó nada The interesting things was that he did not remember anything. Siempre hacen lo fácil They always do what is easy (the easy thing) Note that the word thing is usually part of the English translation.
