What was the Proclamation of 1763? Why were the colonists upset about the Proclamation?

2 After the French and Indian war, England gained a considerable amount of land from France.

3 However, King George, III signed the Proclamation of 1763, which stated all newly acquired land was off limits to the colonists. The land was said to be Indian Territory. Colonists were not allowed to settle in the pink area on the map, between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian mountains.

5 King George left British troops in the colonies to defend attacks against the new land and to ensure that the colonists followed the Proclamation. Why did this upset the colonists? Colonists wanted to settle in the new territory. They also did not like the British troops in the colonies telling them what to do.
