5 Objectives The beginning of a “conversation”  the building of a local IPPC community Knowledge:  The need for information exchange  National reporting obligations  Benefits of reporting  Recognize importance of transparency

6 Objectives cont. Communication:  Two-way conversation that is meant to build: awareness understanding, and trust  Stakeholders / audiences objective message

Communications cont.  Methodology Traditional: meetings, posters, pamphlets, press Newer; e-mail, TV, videos, social media, radio, FFS, plays/festivals, “ambassadors” Establish a national action plan  Agreed actions for the duration of the project information exchange communication  Agreed milestones / deadlines

8 Development On completion, participants should be capable of the following:  IPP: find information, reporting national obligations, understand how different individuals in their NPPO and in partner organizations contribute to the NPPO’s information exchange activities  Enter official phytosanitary information on the IPP  Development of a national action plan

9 Implementation Upon return to work place, participants and their NPPOs should:  Adjust, if necessary, and submit the agreed action plan to the Secretariat  Carry out the activities identified in their action plans Deadlines / milestones  Improve their national information exchange programme

10 Impacts Workshop results:  Increased awareness of IPPC and national reporting obligations  Increased transparency: access to information necessary for safe trade greater understanding of impact of actions increased awareness and cooperation n achieving objectives  Increased access to pest information  Spread of plant pests reduced Protected food security and livelihoods Safe (phytosanitary) trade Protected biodiversity and environment (including agricultural ecosystem)
