World Meteorological Organization Working together in weather, climate and water ET-WISC INTERFACES WMO; OBS/WISwww.wmo.int WMO

ET-WISC ICG-WIS CBS, EC, Cg IPET-MDIEG-GDDPET-CTS MAIN ET-WISC INTERFACES

ET-WISC ICG-WIS CBS, EC, Cg IPET-MDIET-GDDP ET-CTS ET-WISC & ET-CTS ET-CTS undertakes activities for ET-WISC and identifies issues for ET-WISC to address

TASKS ASSIGNED TO ET-CTS BY ET-WISC Cross association between GISC responsible areas Backup functions between GISCs GISC synchronization Authentication and certification procedures WIS Manual Reporting Quality of Service across WIS Centres ET-CTS has to analyze the requirements for telecommunication and data communication techniques for WIS. WIS Project Plan puts many responsibilities on the ET-CTS for developing procedures and protocols to be included in a future WIS Manual. Specific issues addressed by ET-WISC or WIS PO:

QUESTIONS FROM ET-CTS TO ET-WISC Q1) How to serve a “cross association/group/domain” DAR request? Please clarify the expected functionality Q2) What are the expected functions to be provided by a given GISC to DCPCs and NCs of another association, and in particular to the ones of the association where the GISC is failing? Q3) What kind of information should be synchronized among GISCs? - data and products - metadata (product metadata? DAR metadata? service metadata?) - user information? - service quality reports (monitoring information)? Q4) Are there any outcomes (even under progress) of ET-WISC study on synchronization mechanism and interfaces? Q5) What are requirements of synchronization, especially in information volume and timeliness? Q6) Are there any outcomes (even under progress) of ET-WISC study on authentication and certification mechanism? Q7) What are the expected specific contribution points from ET-CTS? ET-CTS requires clarifications on some basic WIS functionality to be able to develop precise data communications techniques and protocols. Seek clarifications on the following issues

ET-CTS QUESTIONS (Cont.) Q8) Who will be the official owner? Q9) When can we expect a draft Table of Contents? Q10) What kind of service quality information should be reported by NC, DCPC and GISC respectively? Q11) What data flow is expected for reporting and exchanging of service quality reports across WIS centers? Example:

ET-CTS WORK PLAN WMO TOR 1: Review and further develop recommended practices for data communication and access procedures, including exchange of high priority data and products in support of a virtual all hazards network within WIS-GTS TOR 2: Advise and assist ICG-WIS on the relevant technical aspects of the Manual on WIS Task 1: Investigate blog technologies for use in GISC synchronization (Priority: High, Target date: 1Q/2010 (Report to ET-WISC) Task 2: Develop a list of synchronization protocols among GISCs (Priority: High, Target date: 1Q/2010 (Report to ET-WISC) Task 3: Study of WIS Core Network bandwidth requirements to clarify the issue of the appropriate maximum number of GISCs (Priority: High, Target date: Jan/2010 (Report to ICG-WIS)

ET-WISC ICG-WIS CBS, EC, Cg IPET-MDI ET-GDDPET-CTS ET-WISC & ET-GDP ET-GDDP identifies issues for ET-WISC, and other IPET/ET to address

TASKS FROM ET-GDDP WMO Flag to ET-WISC and IPET-MDI that metadata as XML representation may be modified (the content is unchanged) by the repository Flag to ET-WISC and ET-CTS the need for a list of synchronisation protocols Flag to ET-WISC the need for synchronisation time (frequency and duration) Flag to ET-WISC the urgent need for a document explaining the problems of catalogue synchronisation (duplication, deletion, insertion,...

ET-WISC ICG-WIS CBS, EC, Cg IPET-MDI ET-GDDPET-CTS ET-WISC & IPET-MDI IPET MDI undertakes activities for ET-WISC and identifies issues for ET-WISC to address

COORDINATION WITH IPET-MDI WMO Urgent need for sample metadata (not just GTS metadata) Urgent need for guidelines on creating and managing metadata Agreement on one standard approach between main centres already developing metadata Agreement on standard mapping of bibliographic terminology (ie description/abstract etc) Urgent need for access to searchable (ISO23950 / SRU) interfaces Updates on the Members and secretariats work on GEONETWORK and a need for sharing and coordination of this activity

ET-WISC ICG-WIS CBS, EC, Cg IPET-MI ET-GDDPET-CTS ET-WISC & ICG-WIS & CBS ET-WISC reports to CBS and is the main CBS team to ensure coordination with CBS Teams and ICG-WIS CBS and ICG-WIS need to see urgent issues addressed quickly so Members can get on with WIS now…
