7 Barb Austin LCSD#1 Wyoming State Governor The governor of Wyoming is Dave Freudenthal. Born in Thermopolis, Wyoming in 1950 The 54-year-old Democrat grew up on his family farm north of town. He is the seventh of eight children.

12 Barb Austin LCSD#1 Wyoming state Hero Nellie Tayloe Ross She died in 1977 at the age of 101. Interment was in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mrs. Ross was an avid supporter of her husband Nellie Tayloe Ross was born November 29,1876 near St. Joseph, Missouri. She was the first woman to be Governor in Wyoming. She taught school for a few years in Omaha before coming to Cheyenne in 1902,.

13 Barb Austin LCSD#1 Wyoming Mini-Timeline 1807--John Coulter becomes the first known person to explore the Yellowstone Park region. 1812--Robert Stuart of the Pacific Fur Company discovers South Pass, a pass through the Rocky Mountains. 1840--The last Rocky Mountain fur trapper’s rendezvous is held. 1902--Shoshone, the first U.S. national forest, is founded in Wyoming. 1924--The First National Bank of Cheyenne fails, one of 25 in the state. The reasons cited are the low prices of cattle, crops, land, and high taxation. 1941-1945After the United States enters World War II, about 33,000 Wyoming men and women serve their country. 2000Wyoming Senator Dick Cheney was elected Vice President of the U nited States
