15 Material Characterization Sourced labs that could retrieve and characterize particles found on scopes. 1. Internal 2. Georgia Tech Research Institute Materials Analysis Center 3. Analytical Services, Inc Determination: Best source is Analytical Services, Inc.
16
16 Material Characterization 2 rejected scopes 1. Found one particle that was not within Combat System Test specs (?) As we had additional samples at no additional cost analyzed. Reviewed and took action on the following: All periscopes have particles missing off of the flanges that are hot- dipped coated. Zinc or stainless steel will flake. Recorded instance in Standardized Work Login Process database. Discussed re-coating, lubricants, shoes – and determined that cost outweighs benefit for single instance. Will watch for repeats. Noted new scopes have rollers and shoes, preventing friction between flange and mast (?) so already prevented in future designs/scopes.
17
17 Material Characterization Purchased collection equipment to do material characterization. Recommend interim acceptance criteria of: When finding: Do root cause Enter in Standard Work Login Process database for trending and info sharing across sites
