George W Bush President #43

Yeeha! George Dubya was born July 6, 1946 in New Haven, Conneticut. He was the eldest comedy of George H W Bush and Barbara Bush.

Hey Patrick, what am I? The Bush family moved to Midland, Texas in 1948, where they made a fortune in the oil business. They then moved to Houston in 1961, and George W was sent to Phillips academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He was an athlete, playing baseball, basketball, and football.

I am so smart! Despite his reputation as an occasional troublemaker, family connections helped him get into Yale in 1964. Like the rest of his family, here he joined the Skull-and-Bones society

I know a guy… Two weeks before graduation, Bush enlisted in the Texas Air National Guard. There was a long waiting list, but Bush got in with the help of a family friend. He was commissioned as a second liutenant. Despite his irregular attendance and questions if he fulfilled his army obligation, he was honorably discharged from the Air Force Reserve in November 1971

More school! He went to Harvard after graduation from Yale and graduated with a masters of business administration degree in 1975. He went back to Midland and started his own oil business after working for a friend. He was introduced at a backyard barbecue to Laura Welch, who he married three months into dating.

Daddy! When his dad went for his bid at the white house in 1988, helping him out a bit. He returned to Texas and earned a reputation as a savvy businessman after buying, and then selling the Texas Rangers for 17 times his investment.

When I grow up, I wanna be like daddy! In 1992 he decided to run for Texas governor, and he ran against the incumbent, Democrat Ann Richards. He focused on welfare reform, crime reduction, and education. He won, becoming the 46 th governor of Texas, and in 1998, he became the only Texas governor to win consecutive four year terms.

Well that was a close call… In 1999, George Bush threw his hat into the presidential ring against Democratic candidate Al Gore. The Florida recount is another story, lets move on to the information…

The stuff I know you’ll have to know. George W Bush, 43 rd president Party affiliation: Republican Vice President: Dick Cheney Took office January 20, 2001

Making it rain In his first two years in office, despite the divided government, he passed a 1.35 trillion dollar tax cut that some said favored the wealthy. He also refused to abide by the Kyoto protocol and reduce greenhouse emissions, which hurt the economy.

A few new things… After 9/11, George W Bush promised that he would do all he could to prevent further terrorist attacks. The plan included the Department of Homeland Security and the Patriot Act.

Oops… After declaring that they would use preemptive force on any terrorist group or rogue state that would prove dangerous, especially with a WMD, Bush ordered the return of weapons inspectors to Iraq. Bush said they didn’t comply with regulations, and invaded May 20, 2002. Baghdad fell April 7 and Bush declared an end to combat May 1, 2003. However, the information that they were breaking regulations was false.

He’s a lame duck, who cares? Even though the wars in the middle east weren’t going too well, the coalition that supported Bush remained strong, and he won reelection in 2004. He pushed for immigration reform, angering conservatives. He ticked off liberals by easing up environmental regulations.

Where is he now? He left office with approval through the floor, an economy in shambles, and a multi- trillion dollar debt. He’s in Dallas now with his wife, he’s written his memoirs, “Decision Points.” He helped out Obama along with Bill Clinton with fundraising efforts after the Haiti earthquake.
