1894 – 1898: Marius Berliet and Louis Renault conceived their first vehicles and created so the basis of their group.
XXe: The BERLIET and SAVIEM (Renault) companies federate progressively different french actors of the truck industry.
1978: Creation of the Renault Vehicules Industriels company, by the merger of BERLIET and SAVIEM. The only french manufacturer of heavy duty trucks is a daughter company of Renault S.A.
1990: The american truck brand Mack joins the group.
1992: Renault Véhicules Industriels changes name for Renault VI.
1998: Renault V.I. and Iveco create the joint-venture company Irisbus
2001: The Group Renault VI/Mack is taken over by AB Volvo after an agreement between Louis SCHWEITZER, President of Renault S.A. and Leif JOHANSSON, President of AB Volvo. In return Renault SA holds 20% of Volvo Group shares. Renault V.I. is compelled by EC regulation to sell its 50% shares in Irisbus.
2002: The international company name Renault Trucks is adopted.
Since late 19th century, different mergers between truck manufacturers have taken part in the development of the brand Renault Trucks
Names like BERLIET and SAVIEM are and will stay engraved in the memory of the different sites
SAVIEM, for products of the light and medium duty range, and BERLIET, manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks : the foundation of the range of products Renault Trucks
