2 OVERVIEW ON THE INDUSTRIAL STATISTICS IN EGYPT

3 - The industrial statistics is one of the indicators which reflect the position of the industrial activities and the changes may be subjected to. Also the basic elements for production and measuring the abilities of industry.finally the rate which share with in the national product. (GDP) INTRODUCTION

4 -The first industrial statistics in Egypt was conducted with the population public process census in 1937. -Then a comprehensive industrial statistic was conducted every three years by following the comprehensive enumeration method for year 1944, 1947 and 1950. -The coverage and periodicity changed to be collected every two years as of 1952 until 1956 on establishments which employ (10) employees and more. - Then the periodicity changed once again to be annual as of 1957. Stages of the industrial statistics development:

5 -As of 1964/65 round,this annual statistics has included all public sector establishments in addition to the private sector establishments which employ 10 employees and more and performing industrial activities. Next :

6 As of 1991/ 1992 the private sector was divided into : 1-Annual industrial statistics of informal private sector including establishment which employ 10 employees and more. 2- Annual industrial of the formal private sector. 3- Investment private sector.

( private sector ) 2- Quarterly annual of industrial production. 2- Quarterly annual of industrial production. 3- Bulletin of construction statistics. 3- Bulletin of construction statistics. 9 This method aims at providing data on the following variable : 1- No. of establishments working in the different industrial activities. 2- The size of labour force and costs of wages. 3- The value of the annual industrial production. 4- The value of the commercial and service production requirements.

10 5-Calculating the adding value and distributing it on production factors. 6-Capitalism formations and the invested capital in the fixed assets. 7- The value of projects under execution. 8-The constituents of industrial production in governorates according to the economic activity.

11 Some of the problems which the industrial statistics face: 1- Some forms are not filled completely. 2- Some tables are filled totally. 3- The kind of currency on every table is not mentioned. 4- Some forms come late. 5- Sometimes, filling the cover of the form come in an inaccurately way.

12 The international standard industrial classification ( ISIC ) : - CAPMAS codes the forms according to the international standard industrial classification ISIC (Rev4 ) to the level 6. - At publishing, the activities are collected to the level 4, then to the level 2. - Finally activities are collected to the level of table group. Some Bulletins are Coded according to CPC.
