1 Hebrews 12:3 ( NKJV ) 3For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.  Matthew 9:36 ( NKJV ) 36But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.  2 Corinthians 4:1-4 (NKJV) 1Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. 2But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.  2 Corinthians 4: (NKJV) 16Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 1 Corinthians 15:58 ( NKJV ) 58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) 9And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

2 Fellowship With God Three Obedience Tests
LOVE the Brethren Brotherly Love Test – 1 John 2:7-11 LOVE NOT the World Righteousness Test – 1 John 2:15-17 LOVE the Truth Doctrinal Test – 1 John 2:18-26

3 Encourage One Another Hebrews 3:12-13 (NKJV)
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

4 Encourage One Another Thayer’s Definition of parakaleo:
to call to one’s side, call for, summon to address, speak to, (call to) a) to admonish, exhort b) to beg, entreat, beseech c) to console, to encourage and strengthen by consolation, to comfort d) to encourage, strengthen

5 Encourage One Another parakaleo – same root word used for the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, our Comforter or Helper (John 14:16), and for Jesus our Advocate (1 John 2:1). 1 John 2:1 ( NKJV ) 1My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.  John 14:16-17 ( NKJV ) 16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth….

6 The Basis of Encouragement is the TRUTH and HOPE of the Gospel
Encourage One Another The Basis of Encouragement is the TRUTH and HOPE of the Gospel John 16:31-33 Hebrews 6:17-20 1 Thess. 4:15-18 1 Thess. 5:9-11 Romans 15:4 John 16:31-33 ( NKJV ) 31Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?  32Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.  33These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you £will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Hebrews 6:17-20 ( NKJV ) 17Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,  18that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. 19This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,  20where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18 ( NKJV ) 15For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.  16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.  17Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.  18Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 ( NKJV ) 9For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,  10who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 11Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. Romans 15:4 ( NKJV ) 4For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

7 Living a Life Focused on the Truth and Hope of the Gospel
Encourage One Another Living a Life Focused on the Truth and Hope of the Gospel Being Devout 1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 Being Zealous For Doing Right 2 Corinthians 7:5-9 Showing Faith Thru Trials 1 Thessalonians 3:6-8 1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 ( NKJV ) 10You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe;  11as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children,  12that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. 2 Corinthians 7:5-9 ( NKJV ) 5For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears.  6Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,  7and not only by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more. 8For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. 9Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing.  1 Thessalonians 3:6-8 ( NKJV ) 6But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also to see you— 7therefore, brethren, in all our affliction and distress we were comforted concerning you by your faith.  8For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.

8 Living a Life Focused on the Truth and Hope of the Gospel
Encourage One Another Living a Life Focused on the Truth and Hope of the Gospel Maintaining Unity Philippians 2:1-5 Assembling Together Hebrews 10:23-25 Sharing Acts 4:36-37 Philippians 2:1-5 ( NKJV ) 1Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,  2fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.  3Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.  4Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,  Hebrews 10:23-25 ( NKJV ) 23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.  24And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,  25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Acts 4:36-37 ( NKJV ) 36And £Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus,  37having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

9 Barnabas “The Son of Encouragement” (Acts 4:36-37)
Encourage One Another Barnabas “The Son of Encouragement” (Acts 4:36-37) He Encouraged Saul When No One Else Trusted Him (Acts 9:26-28) He Encouraged Disciples to Stay True to God with a Resolute Heart (Acts 11:22-24) He Encouraged a More Talented Man to Join Him in the Work (Acts 11:25-26) Acts 9:26-28 ( NKJV ) 26And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple.  27But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. And he declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.  28So he was with them at Jerusalem, coming in and going out.  Acts 11:22-24 ( NKJV ) 22Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch.  23When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.  24For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. Acts 11:25-26 ( NKJV ) 25Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul.  26And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

10 Barnabas “The Son of Encouragement” (Acts 4:36-37)
Encourage One Another Barnabas “The Son of Encouragement” (Acts 4:36-37) He Encouraged Brethren by Taking the Gospel to the World (Acts 13:2-3) He Encouraged John Mark to Try Again (Acts 15:36-41) He Encouraged Brethren by Repenting of Sin (Gal. 2:11-13) Acts 13:2-3 ( NKJV ) 2As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”  3Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. Acts 15:36-41 ( NKJV ) 36Then after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us now go back and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing.”  37Now Barnabas was determined to take with them John called Mark.  38But Paul insisted that they should not take with them the one who had departed from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work.  39Then the contention became so sharp that they parted from one another. And so Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus;  40but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God.  41And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. Galatians 2:11-13 ( NKJV ) 11Now when £Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed;  12for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.  13And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.
