**2.1 Solving One Step Equations**

Objective: Solve equations using addition and subtraction. Discuss: 2 = 2. What if I add 3 to both sides?

2
**2.1 Solving One Step Equations**

Remember: Adding or subtracting ANY number to BOTH Sides does not change the equation. Remember: ADDING undoes SUBTRACTION Remember: SUBTRACTING undoes ADDITION

**2.1 Solving One Step Equations**

SIMPLIFY: Combine like terms and/or distribute on the left and right if NEEDED. SORT: variables on one side, numbers on the other SOLVE: isolate the variable, must be a single POSITIVE variable.

4
**2.1 Solving One Step Equations**

GOAL: ISOLATE the variable. That means get it by itself on one side with numbers and/or other variables on the other side. To do this, follow the GOLDEN RULE of Equation Solving Whatever I do unto one side of the equals sign; do unto the other.
