2 As for me: So fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone.

3 As for me: But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as FOR ME and my family, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:14-15 (NLT)

4 A great reminder to all of us:
When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the LORD your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful!

5 A great reminder to all of us:
Do not become proud at that time and forget the LORD your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good.

6 A great reminder to all of us:
He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ Remember the LORD your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.

7 A great reminder to all of us:
But I assure you of this: If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, you will certainly be destroyed. Just as the LORD has destroyed other nations in your path, you also will be destroyed if you refuse to obey the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 8:10-20 (NLT)

8 Breaking it down: “So fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly.” (NLT) "So now: Fear GOD. Worship him in total commitment.” (MSG) "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness.” (NIV) “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.” (ESV)

9 There is only one God… worship Him!
Then God gave the people all these instructions: “I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. You must not have any other god but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.” Exodus 20:1-4(NLT)

10 There is only one God… love Him completely!
The most important commandment is this: “Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.” Mark 12:29-30 (NLT)

11 Our God is a jealous God:
“You must worship no other gods, for the LORD, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.” Exodus 34:14 (NLT)

12 Don’t “cheat on God” with a false idol:
You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. Exodus 20:4-5a (NLT)

13 What to do with idols – Get rid of them!
Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone. Joshua 24:14b-c (NLT)

14 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Failure to choose causes instability: A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:8

15 You can’t NOT choose: “…if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:14-15 (NLT)

16 SAYING is not enough: The people replied, “We would never abandon the LORD and serve other gods.” Joshua 24:16 (NLT)

17 How can we go beyond the cheap “talk”?
1) Make the choice.

18 It should be a simple decision:
“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NLT)

19 Get off the fence… and finally decide!
“How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” 1 Kings 18:21 (NLT)

20 How can we go beyond the cheap “talk”?
Make the choice. Get involved.

21 How can we go beyond the cheap “talk”?
Make the choice. Get involved. Commemorate/consecrate it (make it “public”).
