English – main areas of learning n Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening n Phonics – Jolly Phonics and reading books. n Poetry – pattern, rhythm, rhyme, performance. n Fiction – traditional tales, stories: familiar setting, other cultures, fantasy and patterned language. n Non-fiction – labels and captions, information texts, instructions, recounts.
Mathematics – main areas of learning n Counting and using numbers to 100. n Counting in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. n Addition and Subtraction n Shape (2D and 3D) n Time (oclock, half past, days, months) n Measures (weight, length, capacity) n Money n Number bonds

How to help your child with home learning n Establish a routine with your child: a set time and place for home learning to be done n Check what tasks have been set and that your child understands what needs to be done n Encourage independence: facilitate not dominate!
Expectations In Year 1, the children will be encouraged to: n Further develop their ability to work independently (scissors, pencil grip) n Take care of their personal belongings and those of others. n Dress themselves and maintain good levels of personal hygiene. n Keep the class Golden Rules
