2 Goals + Accountability = Success
Do you want to be 95% more successful? Welcome everyone, Thanks for being here. What do you want your 2012 to look like???? Introduce yourself Get coffee and pastries. My presentation style is relaxed yet interactive. You will be doing all the work. Who thinks goals are important? How many of you already have some goals set for 2012? How many of you set goals for 2011? How many of those goals did you reach? Ahh, there is a gap isn’t there? Todays objective is to help you set goals that will work for your life. Your life is already full, so how do you make room? How many of you sit around the house waiting for something to do? Are you ready to move forward? before we start I would like you to write down the names of 20 people that you respect. The Equation is simple Goals + Accountability = Success

3 The 7 Step Formula for Goal Setting Success is the essence of my personal thought process...
The seven step formula for goal setting success is the essence of my personal thought process and actions I go through to make goals that fit my life, mind, and soul. I believe in this process because it has worked for me year after year. This process helps whittle down the lofty “Pretty Goals” into ones that mean something to you.

4 The Probability of Completing a Goal
When you hear/have an idea? When you decide you will do it? When you plan how you will do it? When you commit to someone else you will do it? When you have a specific accountability appointment with the person you’ve committed to? Example of going to Physical therapy and keeping the scheduled appointments

5 The Probability of Completing a Goal
When you hear an idea? 10% When you decide you will do it? 40% When you plan how you will do it? 50% When you commit to someone else you will do it? 65% When you have a specific accountability appointment withy the person you’ve committed to? 95% WHY???? WHY are you 95% more like to succeed when you have an appointment?

6 Write down the names of 7 people you respect.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. These 7people are the key to your success so please pick them well. make certain that its people you truly respect, not just friends and family. Life is no fun doing it on your own If nobody knows what you’re DOING, then you will never GET MOVING - Jeff P Step #2

7 What Goals were you thinking about when you signed up?
What do YOU want? #4 #1 Next we want to do what is normal for goal setting which is write down the goals that are in your head. These are the ones that you generally think about, they sound fun, productive and profitable. These are probably the goals you thought about when you signed up for this event and have been stuck in your head ever since. Me What Goals were you thinking about when you signed up? #2 #3 Step #3

8 What is Important to you?
Now we need to set a base line for the rest of the workshop. What do you value? Keep it simple, Keep it simple How Big of a difference is there between WHAT YOU WANT and WHAT YOU VALUE? Is it? Family/Frie nds? Money? Time? Kids? Vacation? What do you VALUE?

9 What words DEFINE your success?
Faithful, Dependable, positive, Unique, CARING, LOYAL, loving, HONEST, funny, ordered, organized, prepared  responsible, Humble, Friend, satisfied, skilled, motivated, teacher, learner, patient, magical,

10 Common Mistake #1 is never asking WHY.
If you can decide WHY you want to do something a large motivational energy develops The more reasons you have for wanting something the more likely you are to achieve it. 1 good reason = a low likelihood for success 10 good reasons = a high likelihood of success

11 Why?????? Why do you want to accomplish these particular Goals? Are they fun? or do they correct a shortcoming? Why do you want to accomplish these particular goals?? Please be specific. I want to point something out that may be a common but overlooked pitfall. We commonly make 2 types of goals, 1. Goals based off of some passion or dream. This is where you want to climb Mount Everest or write a book or start your own business etc. The 2nd type of goals we normally set are ones that try to correct a shortcoming or common failure such as, “I will stop being late” or “I want to loose 10 lbs” These are the goals we set out of our guilt. Here it is important to have a good reason for your goal. For instance the Goal of “I will stop being late” can actually be turned to say, “I will be on time” because that sounds more positive. That is a side note. Why do you want to stop being late is the real question. because it is disrepsectful to others because it creates stress driving too fast, getting speeding tickets costing more $$ because it makes me feel behind all day long. because it looks bad on me and makes my wife angry. These are all good reasons and they are personal to me. The reason we are doing this step is to begin to put skin on your goals, If they are not personal, you will never win. Because: Do what you like and give the rest to someone else. There are enough goals to go around. Say “NO” to goals that have no reason or purpose. Its OK, we still love you! Tips

13

14 Why are we going through such a process?
Why cant we just write down some goals and move on to the action plan? Because Goals without your heart, are Goals you will never start! Goals you never start, rip your soul apart. Live from your Heart!

15 How do we create reality based Goals?
Allowing your Goals to fit into the Reality that is your life is a crucial step to making goals that stick. Reality based goals are ones that will challenge you but also are aligned with WHO you are. We have the ability to make pretty goals that serve no purpose. A pretty goal is one that looks great on paper but really and truly has no purpose. ‘Good looking’ goals are purposeless because they don’t serve a purpose in your life Make sure that your goals are for you and no one else. Put your goals to the test, if they are not your own then they wont work. The key here is to ask the hard questions to yourself, you are the only one who can answer. Your goals must reflect your personality and your personal agenda or they wont work. Brian Tracy - if you dont have goals for yourself, you are doomed to work to achieve the goals of someone else. How do we create reality based Goals?

19 Is it worth saving for Leftovers? Goals
The Now and Later Chart Now Later Spend Time w/wife Train Henry (puppy) Creatures College Bible Study Watch Netflix Workout/run Building 360 Business Hang with Friends Keep Keep Keep This is what your completed now and later chart should look like. As you can see, not everything made it across the line. Why? Because some parts of life cant stay when you are trying to make room for new goals. YOU Get to decide what stays and what Goes. Decide what to Keep for later. Is it worth saving for Leftovers? Now that doesn’t mean you throw the kids on the corner with a back pack and a GPS and say “ now go find your way. Some decisions stick with you for a while. The thing to remember is that at some point you made a decision to have those kids or get that dog and those things dont go away easily, in fact if you keep feeding them they never leave. Past decisions have to be accounted for, that again is why we do the now and later chart. On decisions that you can keep or throw away ask your self the Question “Is it worth saving for leftovers, is it worth putting into a box and taking it home?” Some times yes, sometimes no. Sometimes the meal was great when it was fresh but you know that it wont taste good reheated, so leave it, other times its like a great piece of Lasagna, you know its going to get even better reheated, mmmm That one stays. Keep Keep Goals Newsletter Videos Institute Add Keep the most important and toss the rest

20 Do the painful part Do you have goals in all of the major areas of your life? Personal Spiritual Work, Career??? Do a balance check.

21 Before you add in the new , get rid of the old.
This relieves stress and pressure. What is going to take a hike? Commit to it Who do you have to call, , text, fb,tweet to tell them that you CAN’T do _________ anymore because it doesn’t fit into my goals. Here is the tough part. I will give you the inside scoop, if you can do this, you will win. If you refuse to, you will loose. Difficult decisions are hard to make alone. Lets make them together. Simple yet powerful Make the call, have the guts to quit the things that are holding you back. be freeeeeeeeeeee Whats the bottom line ? if you make room for your goals and set an action plan, the only thing thats keeping you from accomplishing them is the fear of accomplishing them  The reason is simple: you don't want to get more done.  You're afraid. Getting more done would mean exposing yourself to  considerable risk, to crossing bridges, to putting things into the world.  Which means failure Seth Godin. That list goes here

22 "Every worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory."Ghandi when our tasks look good but they serve no real purpose to accomplishing our goals we loose. Its that simple, we loose. So you are going to have to quit something, and its going to be hard, You are going to have to make the phone call or send the to quit doing something to open up more room in your life to get to what you want to. If you wont do this step then I cant help you because you wont help you. So if you make room for you goals and a plan to execute them, then you will either make them happen, or you will not, at least now you know its not due to your lack of ability or time, its strictly due to the fear you have to contribute your greatness to this world, the fear that your greatness may be rejected. We can talk about that at another time.

23 Make an Action Plan Step #5 Zig Ziglars Goal Setting Formula
Write it down Put a date on it Identify the obstacles Identify the people and groups I need to work with What do I need to know and learn Write down the plan of action Now we have finally caught up to where most people begin. The process of creating a goal plan. So I find Zig Ziglars goal setting formula to work rather nicely. I love the Zig Ziglar way. No need to reinvent to wheel. I have included a black speadsheet that I use to make my goals a reality. Step #5

Procrastination at home, cleaning, dishes etc. Begin by going into office and shutting door. 26 Accountability Strength
No Accountability 1. Joe 2. Jeff 3. Ed 4. Jimmy 5. Henry 6. Bob 7. Jake 8. Chris 9. Travis 10. West 11. Sam 12. Jerry 13. Troy 14. Randy 15. Chuck 16. Derrick 17. Jeremy 18. Michael 19. Earnie 20. John Life is no fun doing it on your own Weak Medium So I told all my friends of my goals to get me moving and restore my soul Hitting send on the was so paingful Accountability - you cant do life on your own, its too hard, its much better to do things as team. Write down the goals and the people you are going to send them to. Its the fear of letting others down that will help you stay up. The final step is to add a layer of Accountability. Dont leave me now, this is what makes or breaks you right here. What makes accountability hard is the wiggleroom - we give ourselves too much wiggleroom and rationalize why we need it. Are you willing to break through to the other side. Break on through to the other side, Break on through to the other side, break, break, break, break Use the power of what other people think about you to your advantage. I am not to keen on totally giving somthing up, quitting smoking is not really quitting, instead its redirecting that energy, you never really can quit the energy used to do something, it just needs redirected. So we usually worry about what other people think about us, its a natural human reaction so lets use it to our advantage by sending people your goals because you usually dont care what you think of yourself, but you do of what others think of you. I can disappoint myself everyday and since no one knows but me it seems ok. If nobody knows what you’re DOING, then you will never GET MOVING - Jeff P Strong Step #6 - Set Up Accountability

27 Why Accountability Works
We will allow ourselves room to fail The opinions of other people are a natural driving force Because it gives you a greater purpose than just to please yourself.

33 Do you believe that goals are important ? Who has them?
Are they detailed? Did you have them for 2011? How many got done? Why is there a failure Gap? Seth Godin states “ We fail when we get distracted by the tasks we dont have the guts to quit.” Basically our lives are already full. Who sits around all day just waiting for stuff to do? My point is there is always something. Basic Goal setting doesnt work very well because we make pretty goals instead of Effective goals. We make lofty goals instead of life balanced goals. First I would like you to write down 5 peoples names who you respect and admire. Now make a quick list of all the things you do every day. What do you value? Is there room for any NEW Goals? Probably not How do you make room? I discuss that further in depth in my upcoming workshop Once you do make room, How do you match your goals to what you value? Finally, you cant do this alone can you? Who wants to? Get accountability into your life, What if you were to send your goals to the 5 people you wrote down a few minutes ago. What would happen? Its scary thought isn’t it ______________________________________________________________________ Goal setting is important for our personal growth. It is a process. I want to quickly share with you the condensed version of the process I go through to set goals that are challenging yet doable in my life. First, what Goals are on your mind? Write them down Second, Why do you want to achieve these Goals You can’t have a goal without a reason, at least not in my book, so pick a good one. Third, start a new list, whats important to you. What do you value. Friends, family, kids, etc. Forth, reality check Fifth, Make some room with the Now and Later Chart Check for balance, Personal, Spiritual, Physical Do the goals line up with your values Make the tough phone calls, toss what doesn’t fit Set up accountability.

35 Do you have clarity?
