AUXILIARY PLANE METHOD By Kalakanda Alfred Sunny
2
AUXILIARY PLANE METHOD Projections of planes whose surface are inclined to the H.P., V.P. or both can also be drawn using the auxiliary plane method. In this method, instead of changing the position of the views with respect to the reference line, the position of the reference line is changed and auxiliary views are projected. Auxiliary planes used for projecting the auxiliary views are of two types. 1.Auxiliary inclined plane (A.I.P.) 2.Auxiliary vertical plane (A.V.P.)
3
1. AUXILIARY INCLINED PLANE (A.I.P.) Figure (a) shows an auxiliary inclined plane. It is defined as a plane perpendicular to the V.P. It is represented by a line x 1 y 1 which is inclined at q A.I.P. with the front view as shown in Fig. (b). Projection from the front view on an A.I.P. is called auxiliary (a) (b)

2. AUXILIARY VERTICAL PLANE (A.V.P.) Figure (a) shows an auxiliary vertical plane. It is defined as a plane perpendicular to the H.P. It is represented by a line x 1 y 1 which is inclined at f A.V.P. with the top view as shown in Fig. (b). Projection from the top view on the A.V.P. is called auxiliary front view.

A hexagonal plane of side 30 mm has an edge on the H.P. The surface is inclined at 45° to the H.P. and perpendicular to the V.P. Draw its projections.
6
A hexagonal plane of side 30 mm has a corner in the V.P. The surface of the plane is inclined at 45° to the V.P. and perpendicular to the H.P. Draw its projections.

A hexagonal plane of side 30 mm has an edge on the H.P. Its surface is inclined at 45° to the H.P. and the edge on which the plane rests is inclined at 30° to the V.P. Draw its projections.
8
A hexagonal plane of side 30 mm has a corner in the V.P. The surface of the plane is inclined at 45° to the V.P. and perpendicular to the H.P. The front view of the diagonal passing through that corner is inclined at 60° to the H.P. Draw its projections.
