“ I believe that rights of women and girls are the unfinished business of 21st century.”- “HILLARY CLINTON” The population of world is 7.9 million women ratio is 49.5% in the world but women are considered as the property of men, men are superior over them and they best them and oppress them and subdue their rights. Domestic Violence against women had been at the peak, bit by bit the bonds of superiority of men over women are broken by empowering women. Apart from it at work places women were paid less than men , the unfair and unjust practices will be perished if women are empowered and they are given equality education. Women are our strengths, they are the real architects of your society.

MEANING OF WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Women Empowerment is the process that creates power in women to live a happy and respectable life in a society. Women are empowered when they are able to access opportunities in a variety of fields such as in education, profession, lifestyle, etc., without any limitations and restrictions. It includes raising their status through education, awareness, literacy and training. It also includes the authority to take decisions. When a woman makes a crucial decision, she feels empowered.

EARLY VEDIC PERIOD MEDIVIAL PERIOD BRITISH PERIOD
During the Vedic period women were given high status in the society. The condition of women become worst during the Mughal period. The status of women at the down during British rule in India reached the lowest level. But later Vedic period society became patriarchal as most prayers contained desired to have a son. Lower castes couldn't afford to confine themselves within four walls of home as they had to work outside beside home duties. The wife position was in the household was in a sorry state. The position was Detroiter during this period Evil social practices such as domestic religious, inhuman superstition and sinister customs caused the maximum degree of deterioration During the medieval period only system of Pardha and Jauhar were being introduced by Muslims and Rajput community against women. Women were considered inferior to men and denied to get education Child Marriage, Enforced widowhood, Sati, Devadasi, Dowry, Female Infanticide and etc made the Indian society static.

PRESENT Position and starts of today woman in India is considerably changed a modern Indian society. A country can’t be considered civilized where woman isn’t honoured. Indian laws are being need without any discrimination against women. As a result Indian woman enjoying high position in our society. Modern Indian woman today occupy high rankings posts such as I.A.S, I.P.S, Defences services, Participates in various sports. Women have also achieved high fame in the areas of literature, music and acting. More over woman are joining the fields of science and technology.

NEEDS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE :- Violent or aggressive behaviors within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner. FEMALE INFANTICIDE :- The intentional killing of baby girls due to the preference for male babies and from the low value associated with the birth of females. SEXUAL HARASSMENT :- Behavior characterized by the making of unwelcome and inappropriate sexual remarks or physical advances in a workplace or other professional or social situation. DECISION MAKING POWER :- A woman's involvement in taking non-economic and economic decisions in a household. FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT :- Women freedom of movement is severely curtailed : only in three are allowed to go alone in the market, the health centre and outside the community. ACCESS TO EDUCATION :- Education is considered the most important tool for empowering women in society. It is not only limited to developing the personality of an individual but also plays an important role in economic, social and cultural development. DOWRY :- An amount of property or money brought by a bride to her husband on their marriage. ACESS TO EMPLOYMENT :- The relationship of employment and wealth for women suggests that, for many women, employment is largely a result of economics necessity. Only 7% women working professional, technical or managerial occupation. GENDER DISCRIMINATION:- Is unequal or disadvantageous treatments of an individual or group of individuals based on gender.

ROLE OF GOVERNMENT The government of India is implementing a number of programmes for empowerment of women for improving access to employment, education, urban development, health, infrastructure etc. The ministry of women and child development is administrating followings schemes for gender equality/ socio-economic development / empowerment women. The some schemes are following :-

ROLE OF NGO’S NGOs also play a significant and meaningful role towards promoting self-employment of women by the following ways: Training and Skill Development Legal Awareness and Property Rights Fair Trade Credit/Micro Credit/ Self Help Groups Capacity Building

ROLE OF SOCIETY The government and several NGOs are making efforts to empower women by creating awareness. The government is running a large no. of projects for education and skill development of women so that they can get economic independence. Mentality of society is also changing slowly. More and more no. of women are getting a quality education. But the true meaning of women empowerment will be achieved when gender inequality will be eliminated. We need to give equal opportunities to women for equal pay, equal respect as equal to men
