1 HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

2 COURSE DESCRIPTION This course equips the Medical Laboratory Science students with information management and technology. It presents the general situation of healthcare delivery system in the Philippines and how this system employs various types of health information systems for all its operational needs.

3 COURSE OBJECTIVE Define educational institutions and health system in the international, national, and local perspectives. Explain the significance of core values and objectives to educational institutions and the relationship between the system building blocks and health outcomes and the goals and functions of a health system Discuss the roles of health information systems, components of a health information system and the different data sources for a health information system and its use in the different departments of the hospital, and the criteria for selection Explain ethics in health informatics and review the privacy, confidentiality, and security measures in hospitals and the role of health information management professionals and of telemedicine in the Philippines

5 LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: Define educational institution; Compare and contrast vision statement and mission statement; and Explain the significance of core values and objectives to educational institutions

6 EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION
a place where learners of different ages gain an education including preschools, childcare, primary-elementary schools, secondary-high schools, and universities. They provide a large variety of learning environments and learning spaces.

7 TWO TYPES OF EDUCATION FORMAL EDUCATION
is also called structured learning or synchronous learning. Examples of formal learning include classroom instruction, web-based training, remote labs, e-learning courses, workshops, seminars, webinars, etc. INFORMAL EDUCATION is a general term for education that can occur outside of a structured curriculum. Informal education encompasses student interests within a curriculum in a regular classroom, but is not limited to that setting. It works through conversation, and the exploration and enlargement of experience.

9 VISION STATEMENT A vision statement is an aspirational statement made by an organization that articulates what they would like to achieve. Furthermore, the vision guides the direction of the organization's efforts. Conveys the desired end of an academic institution. It is usually one-sentence statement that describes the distinct and motivating long-term desired transformation resulting from institutional program.

10 02 MISSION STATEMENT

11 MISSION STATEMENT A mission statement is defined as an action-based statement that declares the purpose of an organization and how they serve their customers. This sometimes includes a description of the company, what it does, and its objectives. A mission statement is a short summary of your company's purpose.

13 VALUE STATEMENT It's a message which conveys the core values and priorities of the company, organization or team it represents. This lets your customers and staff know what's important to your business and the kind of culture it has.

16 OBJECTIVES Educational Objectives, or goals, are short statements that learners should achieve within or at the end of the course or lesson. When setting an objectives, curriculum developers must think of the SMART criteria; that is, objectives must be Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Bound.

17 Below is a list of educational objectives set by the CHED through memorandum order no. 14, series of 2006 on “Policies, Standards, and Guidelines for Medical Technology Education” The Medical Technology Education aims to: 1. Develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills in the performance of clinical laboratory procedures needed to help the physician in the proper diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of diseases; 2. Develop skills in critical and analytical thinking to advance knowledge in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science and contribute to the challenges of the profession. 3. Develop leadership skills and to promote competence and excellence; and 4. Uphold moral and ethical values in the service of society and in the practice of the profession.

18 Activity no. 1 INSTRUCTIONS: Answer the following questions briefly.
A vision statement conveys the institution’s desire to succeed. What is our school’s vision statement and how can you help to achieve it? A mission statement is a short explanation of the institution’s purpose and intention for existence. State our school’s mission and explain how you can contribute to its success? A value statement is composed of core principles that focus on the institution and its culture. List down the core values of our school and explain how you will imbibe these institutional core values. Ponder the vision, mission, core values, and objectives of our school. How will these statements help you become a successful scientist?
