LOCATION

When compared to the other buildings in Zimbabwe, east gate consumes 35% less energy.
5
MICK PEARCE Mick Pearce is the architect who designed a retail building called the East Gate Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe. He wanted to keep the building cool in the hot summers but he wanted to do this with minimum energy use.
6
TERMITE MOUND He studied how termites build their mounds which keep remarkably cool He designed a natural cooling system that mimicks the workings of a termite nest. The building uses one-tenth of the energy of conventional building
7
Termites design their homes which control the temperature of their living space even in the hottest of climates.
8
FIG 1: it shows where the external air is pumped and circulated into the building with the help of a vertical shaft. FIG 2 : it shows how the air circulates the entire office with the help of the fan and floor [pre cast concrete and concrete tooth ]
9
In floor, pre cast concrete with hollow provided and placed with a concrete teeth, so the teeth is cooled down at night and the next day when air passes through to it it, it becomes cool air.
10
FIG 3: it shows how the hot air with less density goes up and enter the vertical shaft FIG 4 : it shows how the hot air is passing through the shaft and comes out through chimney which are Provided.

OPENINGS & OVERHANGINGS
12
CACTUS Smooth bodies are heat absorbent and poor emitters of heat at night whereas, prickly surfaces like cactus were quite opppsite.
13
PROJECTIONS
14
In the exterior, he used concrete and bricks because of their properties to withstand heat and absorb it.
