Transform Fault Boundary
2
Objective Of The Lesson Describe Transform Fault Boundaries Differentiate The Two Types Of Transform Boundaries Determine The Effects Of Transform Fault Boundaries Recognize The Wonderful Results Of The Types Of Plate Boundaries 2
3
What happens along the transform fault boundaries? A transform plate boundary occurs when two plates slide past each other, horizontally. A well-known transform plate boundary is the San Andreas Fault, which is responsible for many of California's earthquakes.... The movement of Earth's tectonic plates shape the planet's surface 3
4
Transform Fault Plate Boundaries Two plate slide past on another. The Fracture Zone that forms a transform plate boundary is known as Transform Fault. Most transform faults are found in the ocean basin. John Tuzo Wilson It was John Tuzo Wilson who introduced the idea of transform plate boundaries in the 1960’s. He is broadly praised for his contribution to the plate tectonic theory which has made Alfred Wegener’s theory to be widely accepted even after Wegener’s death. “ Transform Fault Plate Boundaries 5 Conservative Type The lithosphere is neither created nor destroyed. Instead, rocks are displaced along the shearing zone.
6
Shear Zone At the shearing zone, shallow earthquakes happen frequently. Massive rocks ar torn apart and displaced tens to hundred miles away along this area. 6

7 Types of transform plate boundaries Oceanic-Oceanic Transform Fault Boundaries Continental-Continental Transform Fault Boundaries
8
Oceanic-Oceanic Transform Fault Boundaries 8 The Caribbean Plate is a mostly oceanic tectonic plate underlying Central America and the Caribbean Sea off the north coast of South America. Roughly 3.2 million square kilometers in area, the Caribbean Plate borders the North American Plate, the South American Plate, the Nazca Plate and the Cocos Plate. The Virgin Islands National Park is a sheared-up landscape forming as the Caribbean Plate slides eastward past the oceanic part of the North American Plate.
9
Continental-Continental Transform Fault Boundaries 9 When the continental- continental transform fault boundaries happen, earthquakes occurs frequently and may result to the formation of fault along a linear or narrow valley like San Andreas Fault of California which has been formed due the gliding plates of Pacific and North America. Sand Andreas Fault This Features includes the famous San Andreas Fault, responsible not only for destructive earthquakes, but also for the spectacular scenery of the San Francisco Bay area and other coastal regions of California.

11 Can Volcanoes be formed because of Transform Fault Boundaries ? How about rift valleys, can they be formed ?
12
Can Volcanoes be formed because of Transform Fault Boundaries ? 12 Volcanoes do not typically occur at transform boundaries. One of the reasons for this is that there is little or no magma available at the plate boundary.
13
How about rift valleys, can they be formed ? 13 Rift valley, any elongated trough formed by the subsidence of a segment of the Earth's crust between dip-slip, or normal, faults. At their margins, the walls of the valleys may rise hundreds of metres.... Rift valleys are found both on the continents and on the floor of ocean basins
14
What are Transform Fault Boundaries? 14 1. Transform plate boundaries are where two plates slide past one another. 2. Occurs where plates slide past each other in opposite directions, or in the same direction but at different speeds. 3. Mostly found underneath the ocean, while some of them are found within continents. 4. Also called as conservative plate boundary.
