Chapter 1 In Chapter 1 we meet and come to know the main character of our book, Nick Allen. Nick is a fifth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School in Westfield, New Hampshire. Nick is an imaginative and a creative kid. His ideas are unusual and he manages to convince others to join in whatever mission he plans to undertake. He loves to see his ideas take shape in reality. In this chapter we get a glimpse of his previous adventures. Once in third grade Nick turns Miss Deaver’s classroom into a tropical island. He encouraged all his classmates to make palm trees out of construction paper and stick them on their desk. He asked them to dress-up in a beach outfit and then Nick turns up the thermostat in the classroom and sprinkles sand on the floor. His classmates and teacher enjoy this thoroughly, although the Principal was not too happy with his creative adventure. Once Nick learnt from a TV show that red wing blackbirds make high-pitched noises that confuses its predator. The next day, he noticed that his teacher, Mrs. Avery, had a hooked and beak-like nose like a hawk. He began imitating the blackbird noise but Mrs. Avery couldn't identify which student was doing it. She wrongfully accused Janet Fisk but apologized when she realized she’d made a mistake. Nick apologized to Janet at lunchtime and told her about the blackbird noises, which she found very interesting. For the rest of the school year, both she and Nick made the noises at least once per week. Mrs. Avery never figured out who did it.Mrs. AveryJanet Fisk

She kept a bunch of dictionaries on her desk. She kept 30 dictionaries on her desk that is too much!!! *She would be the one grading her students by taking vocabulary tests, spelling tests and reading tests week after week and month after month.

Chapter 3 THE FIRST DAY of school was always a get- acquainted day. Books were passed out, and there was a lot of chatter. Everyone asked, “what did you do over the summer?“ Nick was an expert at asking the delaying question-also known as the teacher-stopper, or the guaranteed-time-waster. At three minutes before the bell, in that split second between the end of today's class work and the announcement of tomorrow's homework, Timing was important, but asking the right question-that was the hard part. Here he was in fifth grade, near the end of his very first language arts class with Mrs.Granger, and Nick could feel a homework assignment

Chapter 4 Nick had to prepare a little report on where did the Dictionary come from and copy out all the definitions for thirty-five words..The law Nick had to follow was ‘Homework First’.’ He looked up the definitions in the brand-new red dictionary that his mom had bought-because Mrs. Granger told her to. It took almost an hour Nick looked at the very front of the dictionary. There was an introduction to the book called "Words and Their Origins”. Nick's family did a lot of reading, so bookshelves covered three of the four walls in the family room. There were two sets of encyclopedias the black set was for grown-ups, and the red set was for kids. He read the kids encyclopedia first and then the grown-ups encyclopedia. He leaned back on the couch and covered his eyes with his arm, trying to imagine himself giving a report on all this boring stuff. He'd be lucky to have three minutes worth. He suddenly got an idea.

Chapter 5 So the seventh period was coming and Nick was feeling bad. As everyone’s eye would be onto him. He looked at the notes for the various subjects which became a big jumble in his mind After lunch, period five and six went by just two ticks. The rang bell for the seventh period and Mrs. Granger walked into the classroom. Fifteen seconds into the period and Nick was on stage. He stood next to the giant dictionary on its table. Upon Mrs. Granger’s instructions, Nick started with the Title “The Dictionary”. Giving about the information, Nick explained on Why Samuel Johnson’s dictionary was different from others. It included forty three thousand words. Nick’s report went on smoothly for twelve minutes. How the word take could be used in one hundred thirteen different way. After a long wait of eighteen mintues oral report on red dictionary, Mrs. Granger asked Nick that class can read that at home. Most of the kids had blue dictionary with them. Therefore Nick continued to read the long article from the dictionary. Which apparently bored the kids to the death. After eight minutes of nonstop reading, finally Mrs. Granger stopped Nick to start a next paragraph. She appreciated Nick’s efforts of a long useful article. Its so fascinating that english has more different words than any other language.

Nick decides to test Mrs Gragner’s statement. When the pen falls from Janet’s hand he picks and gives it back to Janet saying “here’s your FRINDLE” Janet is confused and doesn’t know what Nick was talking about. Nick tells her that she will find out soon. Next day Nick walks into a store and asks for a Frindle. The shopkeeper had no idea what a Frindle was, but Nick just pointed to a ball pen. He did this for several day and also sent his friends to the store asking for a Frindle. After few days the shopkeeper knew what a Frindle was. Thus Nick was successful in coining a new word.
