3 Requirements for Completing the CAS Program
In order to complete the CAS requirement by the school deadline (March 4TH of Grade 12), you must do the following: Demonstrate in your written reflections that you have fulfilled all seven of the learning outcomes for CAS Complete at least one meaningful, long-term CAS project that lasts for a minimum of one month Obtain supervisor reviews (via an online review on ManageBac or a signed CAS document uploaded to ManageBac) for all your CAS experiences Complete a total of 150 CAS hours, with a BALANCED ON ALL AREAS OF THE C-A-S IMPORTANT INFO TO READ IN ITS’ ENTIRITY

4 What is a reflection some of us are still confused
The Four Elements of Reflection Describing what happened: Retell memorable moments, identify what was important or meaningful, what went well or was difficult, obstacles and successes. Expressing feelings: Articulate emotional responses to your experiences. Generating ideas: Rethink or re-examine choices and actions to increase awareness of self and situations. Asking questions: Consider questions about people, processes or issues that prompt further thinking, ongoing inquiry, or action Read this to scholars

5 More on reflections…. In your reflections, be sure to focus not only on describing what you did and how you felt about it, but also on what you are learning or have learned. One of the most important CAS requirements is to demonstrate how you fulfilled all of the seven CAS learning outcomes, and you will be expected to do this in your written reflections. Good CAS reflections are honest, open, personal, thoughtful, and creative ---not formulaic, superficial, or “sugar coated”. Don’t think of the reflection process as a mere requirement, but as a creative, thought-provoking journey of self-exploration and a unique opportunity for experiential learning. Read this to scholars

6 What are not CAS Reflections…
Can’t be paid Can’t be for a grade in another class (but it can be an extension from class) Give LOTS of details and descriptions Can’t be crammed, but must be ongoing (18 months, beginning junior year) Go over this, but they know already

7 NoT CAS, Please  “I graded papers for a teacher.”
“I made brownies for my mom.” “I cleaned my room.” “I walked to my classes.” “I went on a date.” Something funny

8 CAS PORTFOLIO – the WHY ongoing from beginning, turn in senior year
create a “scrapbook” of what you did in CAS in ManageBac, showcase your experience and a reflection pick and choose what you want include a collection of evidence (photos, videos, etc…) must show a sustained CAS lifestyle over 18 months reveal how you have developed valuable for a college or work resume include documentation from our 3 scheduled meetings showcases your CAS program, source of pride Format ideas for Final Project: digital, online, diary, journal, scrapbook, create a website, blog, scrapbook, files, video log, etc. or blended They have this as a printout

9 7 Learning outcomes (You will include these in your proposals and reflections in ManageBac) Enter Managebac and show them a general entry. On the bottom right hand corner they should have selected as many Learning Outcomes as possible for that journal emtry. Also, remind them of splitting up the hours, as well as description should be brief. IT IS NOT were they place their journal.

10 Learning outcomes In order to complete CAS, the school must determine if the (7) Learning Outcomes have been achieved. Therefore, in your CAS experience, particularly in your reflections, you must provide evidence that the outcomes have been achieved. All seven outcomes must be present for a student to complete the CAS requirement. Some may be demonstrated many times, in a variety of activities, but completion requires only that there is some evidence for every outcome. Emphasize this slide.

11 Evidence of Learning Outcomes
