VIDEOCONFERENCING PREPARED BY, MS.SILLA ELSA SOJI MSC NURSING 1ST YEAR

2 DEFINITION Video teleconferencing is a communication technology that permits users at two or more location to interact and system transmit bi-directional audio, video data streams during the session.

3 NEED OF VIDEO TELECONFERENCING IN EDUCATIONAL SETTING
Insufficient numbers of available faculty Budget limitations Limited access to leave patient clinical placements Inconsistency and unpredictability of student clinical learning experiences in live clinical settings

4 COMPONENTS Cameras (to capture and send video from your local endpoint) Video displays (to display video received from remote endpoints) Microphones (to capture and send audio from your local endpoint) Speakers (to play audio received from remote endpoints)

5 TWO WAY VIDEO CONFERENCING
Point-to-point Conferences A videoconference that connects two locations. Each site sees and hears the other sites at all times Multipoint Conferences Point-to-multipoint :A videoconference that connects to more than two sites through the use of a multi-point control unit, or MCU.Participants at all sites can hear one another at all times and see the site that is currently speaking.

6 VIDEO CONFERENCE IN EDUCATION
Conceptualization Construction Dialogue

7 BASIC TELECONFERENCE ETIQUETTE FOR ORGANIZERS AND PARTICIPANTS
Be on time and stress the importance of being on time to other participants Choose a location where there is little background noise Select a phone with the handset attached Turn off your call waiting Address people by name when you speak with them Direct question to specific person, instead of posting them to the audience at large.

8 Ask all participants to identify themselves before speaking
Never ever put your phone on hold during a teleconference Take detailed notes on the topics discussed include who said what Never organiser teleconference without setting a meeting agenda Always test your equipment Never join from Noisy location Never join late

9 BENEFITS Closely resembles traditional classroom-based education; permits learners to be active participants in the process Faculty and staff needs can be met more quickly through just-in-time training More faculty and staff can be trained faster without increasing training resources It can make speciality care more accessible to underserved rural and urban populations. It eliminates expensive travel It makes the best use of limited time Guest lecturer is brought Into a class from another institution. Teleseminar

10 It allows genuine dialogue between all participants
It allows immediate, full two way communication of content verbal pictorial objects It also open up new possibilities for continuing education or training for isolated rural health practitioners Faculty member keeps in touch with class while away for a week at a conference Distance technology can be used to facilitate statewide teaching and sharing the delivery of nursing learning resources.

11 LIMITATIONS The absence of QOS (Quality of Service) provides virtually no guarantee of a satisfying and successful experience Though the technology is improving, a successful videoconference is dependent upon the connections and technologies at all of the participating sites, AND the network infrastructure Security issues

12 BARRIERS OF TECHNOLOGY IN LEARNING
Transporting communication Interpersonal interactions Management problems Geographical set ups Technological and cost issues
