Bathsheba Musonda ( ) Applied Meteorology Global Climate Change

2 OUTLINE Introduction Area/Zambia Results Conclusion

3 LOCATION OF ZAMBIA Zambia has a tropical steppe climate with three distinct seasons The rainy season runs from October to March (corresponding to summer). The dry season runs from April to September ( corresponding to winter) The lowest average temperature in July and highest in October. The distinction between rainy and dry seasons is marked with no rains at all falling in June, July and August The main rain belt is the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) The highest rainfall is in the North and the driest areas are in the south west. Average monthly temperature is above 20 °C (68 °F) and rainfall ranges between 700 to 1400 mm per year.

4 DATA DESCRIPTION Nasa- Merra models 1980 to 2019 precipitation.
Resolution 0.5 Temperature 1960 to 2010 from ECMWF Resolution 2.5

5 ANNUAL AVERANGE TEMPERATURE
Ranges from 26.5 to 29 degrees

6 SPATIAL TEMPERATURE TREND (1960-2010)
Temperature has been increasing at different rate in different areas. With the lowest of 0.009 Highest of over the North-east Zambia.

7 ANNUAL AVERAGE RAINFALL (1980-2019)
Ranges from 90 from the south to 210mm over Northern. Shows that more rains are received over northern Zambia.

8 RAINFALL VARIATION (1980-2010)
Years with low rainfall were observed in between 1990 and 1995 and also in 2005. High rainfall observed between and between 2016 and 2019. Rainfall has been significantly varying from 1980 to 2020

9 Conclusion From 1960 -2010 Temperature increase over the country.
Warmer temperatures in areas with high. Rainfall keeps varying across the country
